Many Amish like to keep goats. Goats make nice pets. Some Amish raise goats to sell the meat. A few I met in northern Indiana sell them to Mexican and Arabic clientele, for example. Apparently goat’s meat is big in traditional Mexican and Arabic cooking. The Amish around Kalona, Iowa, like to milk them. A goat can make a great grass trimmer. Chain to the…
Fireworks. A swamp. “Dead Man’s Hollow”. An Amish horse stuck up to its neck. It sounds like the elements of a TV drama or Halloween story. But these all came into play in the village of Union City in Michigan this past weekend. So I didn’t expect to post another Amish fireworks accident story so soon, but I guess the week following July 4th would…
Via WHAM: (WHAM) – New York State Police are asking for help to find a man suspected of trying to lure children off of an Amish buggy in Seneca County. Investigators said they were contacted after a man driving down Dublin Road in Junius approached a buggy that was carrying several children. The man reportedly tried to lure the children into his car by offering…
Bill and Tricia Moser were living in one of America’s wealthiest communities when they stepped away, launching a journey of faith that ultimately led them to become Old Order Amish—adopting the plain life exemplified by the horse and buggy. They and their six children remained Old Order Amish for 15 years, but in 2014 they left their community and joined an Amish-Mennonite church in Missouri….
Here’s the video version of the recent post on the “driverless” Amish buggy incident in New York. If you missed that one, you can read it here. In the video I elaborate on some thoughts from that post, and share some footage from the WWNY news report. I did this video in a bit different style than the norm. It’s mainly me talking to you…
Last week we had Amish friends down in NC for a few days. Â They took the train down, and we drove them back up, and of course decided to stay a few days in PA. Below you’ll see a common sight here in Lancaster County. Â This was shot last year on an autumn day sometime shortly after sunrise. I have mixed feelings on hot air…

Milking time
(This is not such an odd occurrence. I have stood on the road many times when it was time to bring the cows home for milking, or when it was time to move the cows from one pasture to another. The road watcher has to make sure that cars are aware of the cows coming down the road AND that none of them make a break and run).

Grazy Cross Country Steakout
If I can get my thoughts cow-lected that I herd through the bo-vine, we cud chew the cud. These cows are not quite the moo-dy Whole-stains; they look like Belted Galloway cattle, also known as Oreo Cookie Cows. They aren’t from Mos-cow or Moo-ssouri, but they are de-calfinated. It’s amoosing that their horns don’t work, and they have nowhere to hide. No whey are they going to the mooovies. Some people pasture-eyes the milk. The steaks are high for the stock-holders. Butter not be the laughing stock, but it gives udder delight to milk it for what it’s worth. Got milk?
This one really made me laugh this morning. Moo-velous, Linda.
Final 5 voting tomorrow
Some funny responses here. I am disqualified from playing but the two that came to mind were “Bovine Boulevard” and “Woman vs. Cow”. We’ll have voting on the final 5 tomorrow.
