Tennessee Amish
Tennessee is home to one of the largest Amish communities in the South
When you mention “Amish”, most people don’t think of the South. Yet for over 60 years, a flourishing Amish settlement has existed just an hour-and-a-half outside of Nashville.
Ethridge, Tennessee Amish settlement
The Amish settlement at Ethridge, Tennessee is home to a population of roughly 1,500 Amish. This community was founded in 1944 by Amish from an extinct settlement at Lumberton, Mississippi, as well as Amish from Wayne County in Ohio.
The Amish in this settlement are very conservative, belonging to a Swartzentruber affiliation. The Swartzentruber Amish are among the most conservative in Amish society.
Like other Swartzentruber Amish, the Amish at Ethridge do not use the Slow-Moving Vehicle triangle, meaning extra caution is required while on the road. Homes are extremely plain, as is the clothing worn by individuals in this settlement.
Dairy and produce farming are common ways of making a living for Amish in the Ethridge settlement. Amish run numerous businesses in the area too, often selling products direct from home.
Low levels of technology are used in general, restricting the businesses Ethridge Amish operate. Despite technological limitations, Ethridge Amish run at least 50 businesses in this corner of Tennessee. Amish businesses include furniture makers, produce growers, candle makers, clock repair, and rugs.
Ethridge Amish produce auction
An important part of the local economy is the produce auction which takes place 3 times a week in the growing season (April-October). Local Amish produce growers bring their goods for sale. Among others, Amish sell peppers, tomatoes, corn, cantaloupes, strawberries, and many other vegetables and fruits.
Produce auctions have become an increasingly popular way for Amish to make a living. Produce requires less capital and land than traditional dairy farming.
Additionally, public interest in “all-natural” and organic products help drive this market. Amish may run a produce business on the side, or even make a full-time living at it.
Tourism in the Ethridge TN settlement
As one of the oldest and largest Amish settlements in the South, Ethridge features a fairly well-developed tourist industry. An “Amish Welcome Center” provides visitors with a map of the area, with Amish businesses and the products they sell clearly marked.
Numerous outlets sell Amish furniture, books, and other Amish memorabilia (read more on Amish furniture in Tennessee). Restaurants, stores, and a number of wagon-ride operations provide visitors with opportunities to experience Amish culture.
Amish indirectly participate in the tourist industry as well. Some Amish sell products directly from locations at the English-run tourist-themed businesses. Others receive tour visitors who buy their products direct from home or from an adjacent shop on the property.
Small Tennessee Amish settlements
In addition to the community at Ethridge TN, Amish have also settled in other parts of Tennessee. Small Amish settlements can be found at five locations in Tennessee, including at Huntington and Bruceton in Carroll County (founded 1975), McKenzie (1998), and Summertown (2000). As of 2010, all of these settlements are comprised of no more than one or two church districts.
Tennessee Amish communities that failed
In addition to the present-day communities, Tennessee has a history of settlements that failed as well. Before the landmark Supreme Court decision of Wisconsin vs. Yoder granted Amish the right to remove their children from school after grade 8, Amish often came into conflict with state authorities over the issue of schooling.
Frequently, Amish would move to states where authorities were more accommodating. Such was the case with the community that once existed at Hohenwald, in Lewis County.
The Hohenwald settlement was founded by Amish from the Swiss Amish settlement at Adams County in Indiana (Swiss Amish are a different ethnic group within Amish society).
Amish from this community chose land in Lewis County, near to the young settlement at Ethridge, which had also recently been established by Amish motivated for reasons of schooling.
Amish began moving to Hohenwald in 1947, but the settlement failed to attract many settlers, and never grew larger than eleven families. However, at least one interesting story emerged from this little-known TN settlement, when one Amish immigrant, Rudy Wickey, chose a particularly unusual means of making the 550-mile trip to Tennessee.
Rudy Wickey goes by covered wagon from Ohio to Tennessee
Rudy Wickey was an Amishman living in Wayne County, Ohio. Wickey decided to make the trek to join the settlers in Tennessee by covered wagon pulled by two work horses and a pony. Accompanying him were his wife and five children. Wickey left for Tennessee in late 1947. “Little did they realize,” writes Amish historian David Luthy, “that their pictures would be in newspapers across America” (Settlements that Failed, Luthy, p450).
Wickey was stopped by authorities before leaving Holmes County, due to the overloaded condition of the Amishman’s wagon. Wickey’s wife and children continued on to Tennessee by train, but the Amishman was determined to make the journey by covered wagon.
Luthy reports that Wickey’s picture was taken by newspaper photographers, and that “The Associated Press wire service picked up his story and announced to all America when he had reached his destination, quoting Wickey as having said that he was “happy to be in Tennessee where the people are more lenient toward those of our faith” (Settlements that Failed, Luthy, p 451).
Amish in this corner of Tennessee made a living by raising a variety of crops, including strawberries and tomatoes, and also cut and sold lumber. Eventually, church ministry moved away from the community. The last families at the Hohenwald TN settlement relocated in 1955.
The extinct Dickson County, Tennessee Amish settlement
A settlement of Amish once existed in the Volunteer State at Dickson County. This settlement was founded by Amish from Daviess County, Indiana, who settled here in 1890.
David Luthy reports that Amish settlers to the area encountered “rough locals”, with an affinity for moonshine and fighting. One such fight resulted in a gun and knife battle which left two dead. Shortly thereafter, some people attempted to set the county seat of Dickson ablaze, destroying 28 buildings.
Other challenges included the climate, which alternated from very wet to very dry. Farming was difficult as a result. Farmers raised corn, oats, wheat and hay, and also fruit. One family operated a sawmill. Eventually, the challenges of farming, combined with the Panic of 1893 financial depression caused the Dickson County settlers to migrate to more favorable Amish communities, with the last family likely leaving in 1899.
Tennessee Amish today
Amish are currently found in a total of four settlements in the Volunteer State. Ethridge is by far the largest and best-known. Ethridge has also spawned daughter settlements in both Tennessee and Kentucky. The total population of Amish in Tennessee is approximately 2,100 as of 2010, spread over 6 settlements and 17 church districts.

Tennessee Amish on the Amish America blog
The Amish of Tennessee have appeared on the Amish America blog a number of times. The Ethridge Amish community was featured in a post from summer 2010, as was the Ethridge produce auction. The ‘Para-Amish’ church at Lobelville, Tennessee was mentioned in a post on Amish diversity.
Tennessee Amish were discussed in a much-commented post on Amish communities in the South. Karen Johnson-Weiner discussed Tennessee Amish communities in the context of the Swartzentruber Amish church divisions.

East Tennessee Amish...
There are Amish Communities in Delano and Athens Tennessee…I purchase produce from them in season…
Can anyone tell me how to get to the Amish market in Athens, TN?
Delano, tn Amish
I will be heading there shortly to visit the market. I wish there was a listing of homes that also sold things from their homes.
Hi Bill, could you elaborate? Here’s the directory with info for settlements in all Amish states: https://amishamerica.com/amish-state-guide/
Ethridge Tn "Old Order Amish"
HI, my name is Donna Corbin and I live among the Ethridge “Old Order” Amish. I really admire and respect them and their believes. I deal and do business with them all the time and for the most part you can take whatever they say to the bank. You don’t need their signature on a piece of paper. Every man has his own trade and craft. Makes great neighbors and I never have to raise a garden. Everything I need is just right next door or down the road. Great place to live! And just to clarify, there is 5000 plus Amish in Ethridge, Tn.
Ethridge, Tn "Old Order Amish"
Hi, I live in North Georgia near Chattanooga, Tn and have seen several Old Order Amish in our local Wal-Mart and was wondering if anyone knew of an Amish community near our area? I would love to find out. I absolutely respect their sense of community, family, and culture. Thank you.
Amanda
Amish in Chattanooga area
Amanda, you have probably seen some of the Amish community from Benton, TN. They are not far from Chattanooga and I could easily imagine them going to the area you indicated.
Delano Mennonites
The community outside of Benton are Mennonites. They have a small farmer’s market and make mini-barns. Be sure to dress conservatively if you visit 🙂
Metal Roof
We are in need of a metal roof on our home in the Cosby TN area.
Does anyone know of Amish is this area who does this kind of work?
Directions / information for mini barns / sheds
I am looking to buy a mini barn / shed and was told I needed to go to the Amish community in Polk County. Do you know if that is where they are located and sells them or give me directions on who sells them?
Thank you in advance for any help!
Lisa
Amish elsewhere in Tennessee
Yes, there are other settlements not mentioned on this site. The closet one to the Chatt area that I know of is at Delano, about 70 miles south of Knoxville on US 411. They have even developed an off-spring near the community of Englewood
Amish near Madisonville,TN
There are some Amish that my husband told me about near Madisonville,TN.I also heard about some that are in Delano,TN.Hope that helps you out!
There is an Amish community in Delano, Tennessee just north of Ocoee and Benton, Tennessee. They sell produce at the Delano Community Market on Needle Eye Rd, just off of Delano Rd off Hwy 411 You can find more information on the internet.
The community in Delano is (very conservative) Old Order Mennonite.
Amish in ga
If you are in Dalton or Calhoun ga you are seeing the Mennonites from the Calhoun ga community
Hi Donna,
I had to have a Black Walnut cut down several years ago and had it cut into rough planks. I’d like some furniture made from it. Can you give my information to someone who might be interested in doing it? Or forward their information? My email is cathy@cedarmontfarm.com.
Thank you so much!
Cathy Kelly
Black Walnut
Cathy,
I had a Black Walnut Bedroom suite done by Andy Hostetler,he is at 3575 Buffalo Rd, Summertown, Tn (which is Ethridge) he is #7 on the map you get at the Welcome Center. You will not be disappointed with his craftmenship.
I PAID AN AMISH MAN TO MAKE ME A ROCKING CHAIR OUT OF CEDAR AND THIS WAS OVER SIX MO AGO HE SAID IT WOULD BE DONE BY THE FALL. I HAVE NOT RECIEVED HIS LETTER AND HE DID NOT GIVE US A RECEIT. I LIVE A LONG WAYS AWAY AND DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO.
Amish furniture delivery
I understand you might be feeling antsy…I have no idea which particular business or community you are referring to, but if you want, my 2 cents: Since it is technically still the fall for another month, it sounds like you are still within the promised time frame. However, if you are truly concerned, why not give a call, if you have a phone#, or send a letter of your own?
It’s possible this person got behind in their work. Amish businesses tend not to be so formal and bureaucratic, so you don’t necessarily get progress updates on a regular basis as you might expect with other companies. I would guess you haven’t been forgotten but it might be worth checking into for your own peace of mind.
Amish don’t have phones, but, if paid him, I feel sure that you will get a letter within the next few months.
Generally many Amish do have phone access but if you are talking about the conservative people at Ethridge TN that is less likely to be an option. If I were you I would send a letter myself, if for nothing but peace of mind.
Amish Furniture
Amish Furniture is well made and well worth the wait. Several years ago, I ordered an Oak Bedroom set. I waited about two years for this. I was in Graduate school at the time so I was in no hurry. The pieces of the bedroom set survived the May 2010 Nashville Flood. We took Orange Oil to bring the furniture back to life after a river came thru our home in Bellevue.
Amish Furniture Delivery
If I were you I would send the individual a letter to inquire about when your furniture will be ready. If I were not orginally from Lawrence County I would be concerned about the six month time frame. Crops, etc are usually more of a priority to the Amish. However, you do need to know when your furniture will be ready. I would send the furniture maker a letter to inquire about when your furniture will be ready. When you send the letter to request this information, I would include a self addressed stamped envelope so that the builder can get the information to you quickly. Hope these suggestions are helpful.
Do you have an address? Many times the Amish are overloaded with orders, or they have their own work to do but they are very honest. Please write to them and you will get a reply.
Woodsmith
If the wood is still available, I can help. I am located outside of Sevierville, TN. 865-214-2102 or joe@faithinwood.com
Stay with the Amish
I am trying to find someway to stay in any part of the Etheridge Amish country. I have a very deep desire to connect with the area. Does anyone know of a family that would be willing to have an outsider visit? I can only afford a long weekend, but would like to experience the full life. I dont want electric, etc. If anyone has any information I would appreciate it.
Saddle repair
Do you recommend someone to repair/restore western saddles?
Amos repairs saddles and restores leather goods. He is on Muckle Branch Road in Ethridge. You’ll have to follow the signs or get an Amish map.
how to contact about selling in Collierville TN
Please contact me if you want to sell your products in a local meat market in Collierville TN.

Cedar Trees to be given to the Amish
I have a lot of cedar trees that need to be cut. Just need to cut and clean up after.
Just wanted to ask you a question "Erik"
Erik,
I wanted to just ask you a short question; As
I’m glad to see settlement of Amish in Ethridge
TN. I’m from TN myself and wanted to just
Know how the communities in Ethridge are
doing, and is there some Mennonites within
That Amish Settlement?
I’ve always appreciated and respected both
Amish/Mennonites due to thier commitment
To God. I know no one is perfect and that
There is problems that sometimes occur,
Same as the English culture. I’m 51 years old
And was recently discouraged not being able
To become Amish/Mennonite due to my Army
Service, even though I never served in war
Time? I served at an early age, but was told
By a Bishop & the Ordung that I cannot become
Amish? I speak fluent German but, not PA Dutch
Dialect, I don’t use a lot of new world technology
Like computers, tv, radio ect., I do sometimes
Use a smartphone that I’m on now only for
Minimal usage.
Anyways, hope all is well with you and your
Answers would be much appreciated.
God Blessings,
Arthur
P.S. you can email me directly if you choose
To do so? amabeejr@gmail.com
Art the long-established Ethridge community seems to be steady or growing, and there may very well be Mennonite churches in the vicinity, as is often the case near sizeable Amish communities, but I haven’t investigated it. I know of at least one Amish person who joined the church following military experience.
Thank You Erik
Erik,
Wanted to say thank you for your response,
you see some English people call me a wierdo
or outsider because I follow the bible very
strictly: since I don’t use a lot of worldly things
and they think I love people too much. I feel
very left out, even though I did serve in the Army
to show my commitment to my country. I never
served in war time and I’m a very peaceful
Person, avoiding all confrontations. My belief
is to not use the police or sue someone just
because some owe me; I just forget about it
and move on. I have turned my other cheek
If someone hits me, because that’s how I
Interpret the bible and, also Gods desire to
show love anyways.
I in fact had more German friends when I served
In the Army, than English friends. I learned
the German language well but, like I said I don’t
Know how hard the PA Dutch dialect would be
to learn? I want to thank you again for your answers
and will make contact with some in Ethridge, TN,
may be they can give me some insights?
God’s Blessings to you Erik,
Bros. Art
Blessed Beyond Measure
Bro. Art,
Thank you for reminding me to stand my ground no matter what! Teaching summer camp this year and that is the theme, “Stand Your Ground”.
I am very interested in the Amish communities. I was raised to believe that the church I was in was the only way to heaven. I have come to know Jesus personally and I love to find more people that love Him.
I am also interested in visiting a community.

Could u send me a email address to send the photos too
Hello, I live near the Amish Comm. in Ethridge. We go often to by different things from them. We have made some real good friends. I love going! I really enjoyed your page about the Tenn Amish. Most of the time when I read about Amish in different places Ethridge isn’t even mentioned. Thanks for writing about them.

THINGS TO DO
I VISITED ETHRIDGE THIS past November with some of my church members. We took a buggy ride, and stopped at several homes. This was very enjoyable, but felt we missed some of the area Are there any shops which sell amish quilts and items? Some of the ladies who missed the trip is asking me to take them.
Tennessee Amish quilts
Regeana, there are a lot of shops which sell baskets, rugs, and so on. You definitely do have some quilt business as well; it’s not going to be like Lancaster County, but there should be some.
The thing to do is to stop by the “Amish Welcome Center” near the main drag at the center of the community. They have free maps listing Amish businesses. There are quite a few, around five dozen Amish homes at Ethridge have some sort of business, so definitely worth having the map.
Also, if you haven’t seen it, try this post on the Ethridge Amish: https://amishamerica.com/the-amish-of-ethridge-tennessee/

I have visited the Amish in Lawrenceberg and had a wonderful and eye-opening time. I posted some pictures of the trip on my blog. http://shabbysoul.blogspot.com/2011/05/amish-in-lawrenceburg-tennessee.html
Ethridge Amish
I have spend many days visiting the Amish in Ethridge. I have composed my own map detailing specific items. The map at the Welcome station is good but needs to be updated. If you visit, the best thing to do is get the map and just drive and read the signs in front of their homes. You just drive up and someone will come out.
Split Rails
I looking for hand-split fence rails by the Amish in Tennessee. Robert
can you tell me if you have a inn
Cindy,
Have you found out any information on an inn in Ethridge? I would love to have that experience as well. If anyone else has any information about the Ethridge Amish I would love to hear about it. Also, when is the best time of year to go for a visit? I do not want to only have a view of the “commercial Amish” or touristy Amish but the real day to day life of an Amish family experience. Thanks.
Inn in Ethridge
Amanda, There is not really an Inn in Ehtridge, we stay at the Richland Inn in Lawrenceburg which is just a few miles from Ethridge. There is nothing”commercial” about these Amish, when it comes to there home life they are very private. You can go anytime of the year and see different things going on.
Inn in Ethridge
LLW, Thank you for your information. I understand they are a very private people and I do respect them for that. Maybe one day I will have the opportunity to become friends with someone in the community. I hope anyway. If you have any other information you would like to share I would love to know about it.
Thanks again,
Amanda

Local Amish Communities
I’m wondering if there are any East TN Amish/Mennonite communitites. I have heard some Amish or Mennonites live in Monroe Co. TN. Do they and do they have shops/stores where I could buy their homemade items?
Connie, after becoming interested in the Amish and their ways of living, we soon discovered a small community in Polk County in Delano, TN. Look for their sign about Farm Produce that stands on US 411 just south of Delano. It is on the same road that access a winery. Take the first right hand turn, pass under a railroad tunnel and you are there. Unsure as to the order, but they are very conservative, yet friendly. The road is called Needle Eye Lane. Do not wear shorts or sleeveless clothes.
There are several other Amish/Mennonite settlements on the Cumberland Plateau near Crossville. If you subscribed to The Budget (their communications network newspaper) you will discover several more.
Where in Ethridge?
If I were interested in becoming part of the Amish myself, where in Ethridge would I go to talk to someone, if they would even be willing to accept me that is?
strawberries
I would like to know when I could come to Ethridge to buy
strawberries?
Beverly
Beverly,
With nice weather, like Tennessee is enjoying, strawberries will be available in abundance the first three weeks in May, some late Apr, some through June. Yummy!
Animal Sale
Wondering if you know about an Amish animal sale held in Delano, TN? Date/time/animals sold? Thanks so much.
Never heard of one
Just visited Delano, TN Farmers Market
I just visited the Delano market in Polk County Tennessee this week! My Mom, sister and I went on a Wednesday and hit the jackpot. The fresh, homemade breads and bakery items were amazing! I bought tomato bread, pickled beets (to die for if you like them!)peanut butter cookies and fresh turnip greens. Oh, and the cinnamom roll was better than Cinnabon! They have tons of fresh produce, jams, jelly, sorgum molasses, honey, laundry detergent, soaps in all scents, brooms, horse tack, and one Saturday a month, live animal sales. They do ask with several signs that you be dresses properly, which includes no low cut tops or stap tops as the sign says. They are conservative but friendly, and will answer any questions you have. Have cash handy as they dont have electricity, so no debit machines. It is really neat looking out the back windows at the horse and buggies they have parked out there. If you are in the area, give them a try. You wont be sorry.

amish construction
That would be awesome, Thank you so much !!
I would love to have Levi’s number. Thanks
Levi Yoder
I am interested in contacting Levi Yoder to discuss possibly doing a roof job in suburban Nashville. If you can get me a contact number for him, I would be most appreciative. We bought an outbuilding from Amish in Ohio about 18 years ago, and it was absolutely built like a Sherman tank. I have heard nothing but good reports about both Amish and Mennoites who go outside their communities to do work.
Thanks for your help.
Im looking for how to contact anyone in the huntington area or carroll county. looking to have a barn built and maybe theres a “Levi” that can do it supposedly. It doesnt have to be him, just any mennonite looking for the work. my number is 901-574-9203 if anyone has contact with them.
Carpenter for barn construction
Maria, The Amish in Ethridge are not allowed to travel outside their community (horse and buggy distance) to work. I would recommend calling Summetown Medals as they have contacts in Mennonite communities who can travel in vechicles. Summertown is just north of Ethridge. Their number is 931-796-1521. John or Eric Stoll and Perry Miller were extremely helpful when we were building.
Headed to Ethridge this weekend to pick up my new bar stools, dining chairs and oak desk chair. Can’t wait to get to paradise, love that place.

We are moving to the eastern TN area and want to live near an Amish community. Does anyone know of one in that area? Between Chattanooga and Knoxville?
Amish Communities between Chattanooga and Knoxville
There are two Amish communities in this area. One is in Delano off Hwy 411 in Polk county. The other one is on County Road 422 between Niota and Englewood in McMinn county.
Amish in Englewood off county road 422
I’d like to know more about the amish mentioned by one poster in Englewood. I was recently told by the guy that owns the market/deli in Greenback,Tn , right on hey 411 that the children from the Delano amish bought a farm near him and started having their own farmers market on saturdays. Can anyone confirm this ? Is this the same group as the amish who are on county road 422 ?
I’d like more directions to their place if they have produce, etc to buy.
Delano market visit,finally!
My husband and I went to the Delano Market on the 29th and loved it!It was smaller than what I imagined but growing up 3 hours away from Holmes County,OH,it was a little different than what I expected at the Delano market, but still absolutely incredible! Is it normal to pay 4 or 5 dollars for a dozen cookies? We didn’t buy any,I was just curious.

I live in Polk County,TN and know of an Amish community in Delano,TN.We go down through Tellico Plains,TN to get there.I’ll need to ask my husband about the specific directions, but I’ll get them for you.Hope you enjoy our part of the state while you’re here!

Need construction help in Benton County, Tn
Hi. I have a log cabin that needs repair work on eaves, external loft, and possibly roof replacement. As I am seasonal resident (only there throughout summer and during Christmas), I always have difficult time finding reliable, quality workers. I was told by neighbors that I should try to find Mennonite workers, but I do not know how. Can anyone help me by giving me contact name? I am more than willing to pay fair price. My main concern is fixing/preserving my beloved seasonal home. Thanks in advance for any information. ~Sherri

Living in Clarksville TN / KY surrounding area
I noticed no mention of the Amish/Mennonites living close to Clarksville and surrounding KY area. They are very friendly people selling the best furniture and buildings (sheds) I have owned one for about 15 years and really expect it to last a lifetime. Though they venture out some in cars and some in horse and buggy to store and restaurants they stay to themselves except when they sell their produce mostly on side of roads and in their communities.
going to visit this friday
I am going to take my family to lawrencburg and ethridge this Friday. I was told by my dad that I needed to go see Mrs. Gingridge (spell check)on Baffalo Road for pies at her home and to the Duster making mans house on Brace Road. Are these Road names correct and also. I would like to take my two boys age ten on a wagon ride and to see a living family house. Is this possible? Thank you in advance for your help.
In and around Ethridge
Hello,
The lady on Buffalo Road is Mrs. Lizzie Gingerich – name on the mailbox is Menno E Gingerich. They have a small store in the back. Don’t know which direction you are coming from, but if it is from the south you will pass an old dairy operation on the right and it would be up from that on the left. Coming down from the north, it would be past Oaks store on the right. The riding duster is off South Brace on Amish Lane – easiest way from Lizzie is to go down Brooks Hughes (almost directly across the street) follow it till you cross the RR tracks and turn left, make the next left (crossing the RR tracks again) and continue a mile or so. Amish Lane will be on the right. Cross the RR tracks again (I am not kidding) and continue on their very long lane to the white house up on the hill which you can see as soon as you enter their lane.
Maggie

Hello,
There is only one wagon tour now that Jerry’s has gone out of business. It starts at the Amish Welcome Center on the corner of Brewer Road and Highway 43. You will be able to see the outside of Amish farms and maybe a shop/business, but not go into their homes. Also, photos are not allowed.
Interested in Amish/Mennonite Pen Pal
I live in the Plateau area of Middle tn. and am interested in finding an Amish/Mennonite lady to write to. I have heard that it is hard to find a pen pal though. My family sometimes travels to Muddy Pond and visits the general store there, my personal favorite is the Sassafras Candy, my daddy likes the molasses. :)I just love all the beautiful quilts and crocheted items that they have so carefully made and sell, as I am a crocheter myself. I am a 26 yr old Christian lady, recently married to an elementary teacher. I find that my ways are too old fashioned for most young folks this day to understand, I grew up on a farm, my father is a farmer, and our whole family works the garden in the summer. It would be nice to correspond with someone who has a similar type of life because my friends are so very different from me and stare at me blankly when I talk about the farm, or the simple happiness of playing in the creek, or roaming in the mountains. 🙂 Thanks to anyone in advance that could give me information.
Pen Pals Wanted...
Hi Katie I was wondering if you have found an Amish or Mennonite Pen Pal yet. I am also looking for an Amish or Mennonite Pen Pal. I know what you mean about people looking at you blankly, I have the same problem. I am a 51 year old lady from Newbern, Tn. and my husband is almost 69. He grew up Mennonite and he has always told me so many things about them, and we used to be really good friends with some Amish. I love anything about them, I am a newbie quilter and I’ve been learning to hand quilt but I’m trying to find an Amish or Mennonite lady that I would pay for her time if she would be willing to teach me more, but I am also looking for someone to converse with that understands. I was born and raised in West Virginia, the daughter of farmer in his youth.
I have not been able to find an Amish/Mennonite pen pal yet to write to. That is so interesting about your husband growing up with the Amish he must have had some great experiences :)Thats wonderful that you are learning to quilt, I am just a beginner in that skill myself. I have heard that West Virginia is a lovely place, its nice to hear from a fellow farmers daughter, my father and I just started planting the fields this month.
Just to clarify I am Katie R, there is another Katie on this forum as well. 🙂

Delano Market
We went to the Delano Market today(Sept.28). I spoke to the cashier who was from Holmes Co.,OH originally! He was very nice and interested in what I had to say!I had to resist the urge to speak my limited knowledge of PA Dutch to him!We took about 2 or 3 trips to look at the animals and come back for more food we wanted!I should have gotten that German Chocolate Pie when I had the chance!Has anyone ever tasted a Pineapple Lemon Pie? I wanted to know how it tastes because my husband likes pineapple and lemon. Is 7 dollars a good price for a single pie?We also got 20 little sweet peppers for 5 dollars. All in all,it was a wunderbaar gut day!

Amish in Bledsoe County?
I recently visited Falls Creek Falls State Park in Bledsoe County, and I got lost driving back from the park. I was driving on meandering back roads, and at one point I encountered two Amish women walking on the road, one of them pushing a bicycle. This was a big surprise to me because I had no idea that there were Amish living in Tennessee. However, I just now Googled Amish in Tennessee, and found no reference to a community living in Bledsoe County.
