Dozens of Amish Pick Up & Move Another Barn (14 Images)

It’s been a little while since we’ve seen a good Amish barn move. This one is courtesy of Jamie Dinger on Facebook, and looks like it happened back in September.

Going through the many comments, it seems this was somewhere in Iowa. It’s unclear where however, suggestions include the Bloomfield area, Kalona, and northeast Iowa. No matter for now, it’s a great video of another inspiring move.

Jamie says that they moved it “250 feet ish”. No word on how many helped, but based on what’s visible in the video it’s easily many dozens.
This happens often enough when a perfectly good barn turns out to be of more use in a different location.

Rather than tear the old one down and build a new one, the Amish simply rally a big group together and use muscle plus a little planning and coordination to get it to its new home.

As is typical, there is a group of young Amish boys there to watch, waiting their turn until they’ll be big enough to lend some muscle to this sort of project.

Returning to the question of where this is, there is one interesting detail revealed in this next still shot that makes me wonder if it isn’t northeast Iowa. Do you have an idea what I mean?

The buggy we see here has an atypical SMV emblem placement – on the upper left hand side. That is something you see in Buchanan County, Iowa (Hazleton) among other places. Hmmm.
Here’s another example from the Hazleton community, in this photo by Suzanne Woods Fisher:

Back to the move. Here they start to turn the barn:

And set it down again:

The video cuts off right after this, but it still needs to get to the new foundation. Here’s the video of what you see in the screenshots above:
Iowa Barn Move: More Views
There appear to be several more videos from the same move in the comments section of the main vid, which show more of what happened. For example this aerial view:

I can’t embed those, but here’s another shot of it getting moved onto its foundation. Hooray.

Here’s another from close up inside the barn.

And another from above as they turn the barn to get it into place.

And one from what looks like afterwards, when everyone is visiting and enjoying some food.

Well I hope you enjoyed that. I never get tired of seeing these, and I’m grateful to Jamie Dinger for sharing it. And here’s another one from Wisconsin, if you’re in the mood for more barn moves.

I believe this is Buchanan County, Iowa Amish settlement. I noticed the SMV immediately. Bloomfield Iowa is still conservative more progressive than Buchanan though. (I believe they have theirs in the proper spot. At least from what I’ve seen out there! )The first time I ever knew about David Luthy was from someone out there in Bloomfield Iowa!
