The Amish in the Old Dominion State

While the Amish are much more readily associated with states like Pennsylvania and Ohio, Virginia lays claim to its own small Amish presence.  Communities can be found in the southern part of the state, in Halifax and Charlotte Counties.  A third Amish settlement is located in the mountainous region near the Appalachian town of Pearisburg.

Each of these settlements numbers only a relative handful of families.  While Amish have not settled in great number in the Old Dominion State, like their brethren elsewhere they have cultivated a raft of small businesses including woodworking shops and shed makers.  More on the Amish in VA.

Amish businesses in VA

Amish home businesses have become an important part of the Plain economy for Amish in Virginia and elsewhere.  In some areas they are superseding the traditional family farm.  Amish have found entrepreneurship to be a good alternative to the prospect of purchasing high-priced land and making the large capital investment that the classic dairy farm requires.  Small shops such as Amish shed businesses can be set up at a relatively low cost on the home property.

Amish Shed Businesses VA

Amish shed businesses, like this one in Halifax County, VA, produce a wide assortment of storage buildings

Amish business owners have a natural system of apprenticeship in place, by which youth (who finish school at around age 14-15) learn trades while working in workshops owned by family and fellow church members.  Thanks to this hands-on training, Amish learn the necessary craftsmanship skills, and are exposed to real-world business experience, both of which help them run their own companies successfully later in life.  Read more about Amish furniture stores in VA.

Where to buy an Amish storage building in Virginia?

Amish storage buildings can be found at multiple locations across VA.  The best solution for many is to purchase an Amish shed or storage building from a dealer, many of which are located within a short drive of major Virginia population centers.  Many dealers carry a range of Amish storage structures in stock, and some can also arrange custom orders with Amish craftsmen.

Buying direct from an Amish storage building business is another option.  A number sell their products on a retail basis, though not all.  Many Amish shed makers can also be found in neighboring states, such as Kentucky and Pennsylvania.

Finally, you may find that purchasing an Amish shed via the internet is the best option for you.  This option typically allows you to browse and custom-order your selection from one of many numerous online Amish shed outlets.  Delivery and set-up is often offered for a reasonable fee, or sometimes even for free when the order is within a local area.
