Peek Inside an Amish “Barndominium” (19 Photos)
The barndominium is a hot trend right now. And people are noticing that the Amish are doing a version of this – and have been for some time.
In fact, we’ve looked at many examples of Amish shop houses here – and even a barn-and-home-in-one.
This one, on the market now in Glasgow, Kentucky, is a really nice example which, when you look at it, seems to really fit the “barndominium” idea.
It really does look like a barn of sorts, with its large size, and red color (though, it might be more suited to eventually being some sort of manufacturing space than a proper barn).
In any case, the Amish owners are moving out, and the property is available now. Here’s the extensive description via Zillow – then we’ll have a look inside:
Looking for a spacious, unrestricted, unique property with endless possibilities? Inside the Amish Barndominium
First off, here’s the kitchen area along one wall of the barndominium main space:
Here’s another corner of the kitchen, while we’re over here. Looks like a little kerosene stove there.
The long, oilcloth-covered kitchen table spans much of the kitchen area. I’d guess this is a “full-sized” Amish family of about 10 to 12 members including Mom and Dad.
And panning over to the main part of the big room – where you can see this is a really open space, with high ceilings – definitely giving it a “barn” feel.
All the classic notes of an Amish home are here – wood stove, rockers, hunting trophies – just arranged around a more cavernous space. The walls you see here section of the bedrooms and other areas of the home.
Views from the opposite sides of the room give you a different angle.
Seating for warming up by the wood stove on cold evenings. With the high ceilings, I imagine you are burning more than you would in a regular home to warm all that air.
And from the “living room” section. Living in a cavernous space like this, you can create natural barriers using strategically-placed furniture. This one feels pretty open though.
Here’s more or less the entire main space, viewed from above:
A peek into the pantry space reveals a canned goods section, cooking utensils and other common pantry items.
And here we have the wash room. Two wringer washers for this large family, a wood cookstove and bake oven.
Here are two of the bedrooms. This looks like the parents’ room, on the ground floor.
And one of the sons’, on the second floor I believe.
Stairs leading up.
Barndo Living
I think that gives a pretty good feel for this Amish barndominium. If you’d like to live in this “Amish barndo”, you’d probably want to do a good bit of additional work to bring it up to “English” standards. But for the right person it could be an exciting property to take over.
The Zillow listing has a lot more photos of the property itself, which is a nearly 14-acre lot, and seems to have a lot of nice Kentucky rolls to it. Here’s one of those photos.
So what is the asking price for this Kentucky Amish barndominium property?
It’s on the market now for $335,000, having had a recent $10K price cut. Represented by Tammy Pulley of Elmore Realty & Auction. Neat place!

KY Amish home for sale
Hi everybody,
I noticed a few things here. 1) There are 2 bedrooms that contain a crib. 2) Also, there’s more than one family size buggy. I’m wondering if perhaps there are actually 2 families living here what with the 6 bedrooms. Seems strange to build a house one year & then move just 2 yrs later. I’m also wondering which of the many affiliations they belong to. If there are any fans/readers of this website who live in the general area, please leave as much information as you have. Thanks! One thing is for certain: whoever buys this large home will be lucky indeed. Have a wonderful day. Many thanks to Erik for bringing us this story.
