Inside An Amish “Hobby Farm” Home (22 Photos)

Let’s check out another Amish home in the Harmony, Minnesota community. I’ll note that this is at least the third Amish home I’ve come across up for sale online in this conservative Swartzentruber Amish community.
Others included this picture-perfect farm home (and dawdihaus), and this “simple & cozy” home. This one is described as a “Hobby Farm” in the listing, so that’s what I’m going with in the title here.

So some Swartzentruber Amish, at least in this community, clearly have nothing against using the internet to seek buyers for their properties. I’ve covered this before, but it’s natural to wonder: why are the Amish listing their homes online?
In a lot of cases, particularly in larger Amish markets, homes are sold in more traditional/analog ways. But in smaller communities in particular -where there might be fewer potential Amish buyers – they might need to expand their reach to sell the property.

Thus we have another example of how outside parties help the Amish achieve business goals using technologies that (many) Amish wouldn’t use. Although, that statement is maybe less and less true as the years go by.
Here’s this home’s description via Zillow. The “secondary home” would be the dawdihaus (grandparents’ house), which you can see in the photo above:
Nestled in the serene countryside, this property offers a peaceful retreat with endless possibilities. Featuring a 2,066 sq ft Amish-style home and an additional 924 sq ft secondary home, this unique property is perfect for those looking to embrace country living with plenty of space to grow and create. The home showcases a spacious, open layout with a large kitchen and a comfortable living area, ideal for both everyday living and entertaining.
Outside, you’ll find a 40×66 shop built in 2019, a spring-fed pond, a 36×66 barn, and over 30 acres of pastureland, offering ample room for horses, livestock, or farming. Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast, hobby farmer, or simply someone who values space and tranquility, this property has it all.
The location is perfect for those who want to be away from the hustle and bustle yet still within easy reach of nearby amenities. If you’re ready to experience the peaceful beauty of country living, this property offers everything you need and more.
Sounds like a nice place. Let’s have a look inside. Here’s a nice shot of the kitchen.

A bit closer view here. I’ve said it before but I am quite fond of the blue door frames, doors, window frames and molding you tend to see in plainer Amish homes:

And the cook stove in the popular-with-Amish Pioneer line.

In this very wide view of the living area we can see some quilting in progress:

Zooming in for a better view. Also note what looks like either an antique or perhaps toy gun over the door:

Looking at this section we see another stove along with a hanging apparatus that is probably used for drying, though I can’t tell you for sure.
At the moment it looks like it’s serving mainly as an oversized hanger. Also note the “pink section” of decor and semi-decor items.

And in the other third of this room we see some chairs for relaxing.

Heading upstairs to see the bedrooms.

There are only two bedrooms pictured of the four listed. Here is one, with feminine notes.

What gets my attention here, actually even more than the pink cover, is the “Love” decor sign on the wall. This is the sort of thing you started seeing in progressive Amish homes 5-10 years ago, and now is showing up in some of the plainer Amish homes as well.

Here is likely a young man’s room:

This is what I would call a “sort of made” bed 🙂 I wasn’t above using this technique growing up.

That’s actually it for the interior photos. Not a ton with this home. But I think that gives you a nice feel for it. It’s definitely a conservative Amish home, but with some progressive notes creeping in here and there.
And, like all Swartzentruber homes, there is no bathroom in this one. So a non-Amish buyer would have a bit of work to do, but for someone considering buying an Amish home, that shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Now to have a look outside and some of the outbuildings. First, here is the “secondary home” aka dawdihaus. No photos from inside this one.

There is a lovely pond on the property.

Here’s a newer barn or shop building. The property also has an older more classic barn.

Looking inside we see the buggy and some wood. Might be a woodworker or carpenter living here.

Here’s a view of the front.

And another aerial view.

So how much is this property – consisting of two homes and multiple outbuildings on a 35-acre lot?

It’s currently for sale at $365,000, represented by Kelsey Bergey and Roxanne Johnson of RE/MAX Select Properties.

Nice price
We’ve been looking for property and a house now for over a year. Too bad this wasn’t in Michigan. For that price will only get you a house and maybe 5 acres in my neck of the woods.
Amish Home For Sale Near Harmony, MN
Hello All . . . Did anyone happen to notice the living room had 2 grandfather clocks?? Oddly enough on the SAME side of the room. Pity there were no photos inside the dawdihaus, nor the basement areas or of her kitchen garden space. Still, I’d have to say that’s one beautiful property. I live but a few hours away by car. Sure wish I had more money in the bank. Lol. Thanks, Erik! After the tragic & deadly van/truck accident in MI article, this was a most welcome story.
Any idea why they are leaving?
I also noticed at least four Amish farms for sale in the area — three in a close cluster, and then another about 30 mis away outside Lanesboro. Any idea why they are leaving the area?
