Suspect CRASHES Into Amish Children After 90 MPH Chase
A man wanted on multiple serious charges led police on a high-speed chase in a remote part of Maine – with the pursuit ending after he hit an Amish wagon carrying six children.

Fortunately, somehow no one was hurt, which doesn’t sound like what you’d expect after learning that speeds reached 90 MPH. From Fox 23:
Police say they spotted 34-year-old Anthony Vangel of Easton in the parking lot of the Aroostook Mall in Presque Isle on Tuesday around 7:30 a.m. Vangel was wanted failing to report to the Aroostook County Jail on charges that included aggravated trafficking with a firearm, burglary, theft, forgery, and violation of bail.
According to police, Vangel drove off when he spotted officers. Police say they followed him, but the chase was called off on Fort Road due to speeds reaching 90 MPH.
Shortly after, police say Vangel lost control of his vehicle and hit a horse-drawn Amish wagon that was carrying six children.
The only thing I can figure is that since the chase had been called off, Vangel must have been in the process of slowing down or had slowed down already. But if you’re going 90 and slow down to 50, it may “feel” slow, but still fast enough to come up too quickly on a horse-drawn vehicle.
Again, somehow, thank God, no one was hurt here – including the horse. It could have been horrible. I have to think that the driver must have been able to reduce speed significantly before impact. Another report adds this detail:
Shortly after the pursuit ended, Mr. Vangel lost control of his vehicle, spinning on the roadway and striking a horse-drawn Amish wagon carrying six children.
It’s described as a “wagon”, so may not have been an actual full-sized buggy.
Had he caused injury or God forbid, a death, he would have added serious charges to the already serious ones he’s facing:
Vangel was arrested and charged with operating after suspension, operating under the influence, eluding, driving to endanger, refusing to submit to arrest and detention, criminal speed, failure to report, and violation of bail.
The incident happened in Presque Isle in Aroostook County – a famously gigantic county larger than three states. It’s currrently home to four Amish communities.
The one in this area is known by the nearby towns of Fort Fairfield and Easton. They are a conservative Swartzentruber Amish group.

This person should never drive a car again. License gone. AND spend a very long time in jail.
Maine crash
You’re really on top of things! My daughter who lives in this area of Maine sent me this story during the night so I thought I would forward it to you. To my amazement you already have the information. Praise the Lord no one was hurt this time. It’s surprising considering the speed of the car and the buggy carrying 6 children. I’m glad they caught this guy. Also, she mentioned my granddaughter, who is almost 3, tried to interact with an Amish girl her age while playing at the farmer’s market. My daughter was told by a non-person that they teach their children from the time they are toddlers not to speak to non-Amish children. We’ve never heard of this before, have you? Could just be normal 3 year old shyness.
Crash After 90 MPH Chase
Thank the Good Lord everyone- horse included- is okay. When I think of the crash in my native Fillmore County, MN and the 2 young lives lost + injuries to the 2 surviving children . . . It just makes me shudder! And the one Petersen twin got off EASY! Hope and pray they “throw the book” at the driver in Maine. He deserves no less than many, many years behind bars with all the charges against him. Just my thoughts of course. I don’t know why charges/ fines for crashing in areas where Amish & their slow loving vehicles are prevalent aren’t doubled?? Don’t we who use cars have to share the road with EVERYONE?? Thanks for bringing this story to our attention, Erik. I appreciate this.
Crash . . .
Oops, darn spellcheck! Of course I meant slow moving vehicles. HaHa! Sorry.
So sorry
I believe we’re in the last days and people have forgotten about morales and the Ten Commandments . Woe to them who don’t turn themselves around and come to Jesus. So sorry this has happened to the family’s . Loss is hard . At least you will see them again in heaven. God bless and keep you. Love in Jesus name . Deborah
