Finding Amish stores and products
From modest roadside stand selling canned goods to vast retail showrooms harboring acres of Amish-made household furniture, Amish products can be found in a wide variety of venues. Â You may have encountered an Amish product while on vacation in an Amish community. Â You may have purchased furniture, quilts or other Amish-made goods online. Â You may be searching for businesses in a specific community, or the nearest provider of a certain good to your home.
As you travel in Amish communities, you’re sure to notice roadside signs pointing the way down long farm lanes to workshops, retail stores and bakeries often housed adjacent to the Amish home. Â Others will refrain from visiting Amish settlements, instead searching for Amish business signs pointing the way to venues selling Amish products online.

Geographically-ordered listings in the guides included here (organized by state) are meant to make locating a seller of Amish products fast and easy. Â The businesses listed here are both Amish-owned (noted when known) and non-Amish dealers of Amish products. Â Addresses, phone numbers, and websites, when relevant, are provided.
Some Amish companies may have a web presence thanks to cooperation with English partners, or may rely on an English-owned website to retail their goods. The non-Amish companies listed in these directories typically maintain close relationships with Amish manufacturers, allowing them to cooperate to produce goods in response to changing tastes.
Amish quiltmakers for example create quilts in both traditional styles, but also in more modern designs, as well as related products that have become popular among English customers, such as quillows or patchwork bags. Â An Amish furniture craftsman can design a new line of furniture in response to feedback given directly to him by customers, or if he is a wholesaler, channeled via a non-Amish retailer with whom he works.
In this manner Amish companies not only craft products aligned with Amish tradition, but also adapt to satisfy demands of their often highly non-Amish clientele. Interestingly, even those businesses which may seem to be strictly Amish-oriented in fact do a fair share of work for non-Amish. Â For example, an Amish buggy shop may also do some restoration of turn-of-the-century era cars (a time when the “horseless carriage” wasn’t so drastically different in design from today’s Amish buggy). Â Harness shops may do work for English horse owners, and horse-drawn equipment makers produce implements both for Plain farmers and English hobby farming enthusiasts.
Amish Businesses across America
The landscape of Amish occupations looks markedly different than it did for Amish forefathers of the 18th and 19th centuries. Â While agriculture remains a mainstay in many Amish communities, today thousands of Amish households provide a number of goods and services via home-based businesses. Â Amish business is a relatively recent phenomenon with roots in the mid-20th century, developing a full head of steam through the 1990s and into the 21st century.

Home enterprises have filled a gap which has arisen due to high land prices and large families pricing many Amish out of the market for traditional dairy farming. Â New generations of Amish business owners who, unlike their predecessors, never grew up on a farm, are founding businesses and taking over family firms in what is becoming for some a generational family tradition of entrepreneurship.
An Amish business may be as unassuming as an Amish housewife crafting candles in spare moments between taking care of household and children, to large Amish mini-factories employing dozens of workers and dedicated marketing and sales teams.
Most Amish businesses lie somewhere in the middle, existing as a small-scale means of providing a living for a single household. Â Amish businesses may be owned and operated by males, females, or both in husband-wife partnerships. Â Most commonly Amish men steer enterprises which employ family or neighbors in a locally-oriented environment.

Common among Amish companies are businesses in the woodworking, construction, and manufacturing sectors. Â Market stands thrive in the Mid-Atlantic region, typically operated by Pennsylvania Amish in and around large metropolitan areas of Baltimore, Philadelphia, New Jersey and beyond. Â Crafts remain a strong sector for Amish females, with Amish women doing skilled craft work such as clothes making or quilting in their spare time and in some cases operating full-fledged full-time companies.
Some Amish businesspeople operate in more obscure fields as well. Â Taxidermists, house movers, electricians (yes, electricians), accountants, health store owners, bookbinders, beekeepers and casket makers are all among the less-common enterprises occasionally seen on the Amish landscape. Â Though they restrict formal education, Amish have shown a knack for entrepreneurship often coming up with creative ideas for business ventures.
When you buy Amish-made products and services, you are helping to support Amish families who have adapted to a new entrepreneurial tradition likely to persist for generations to come. Â Likewise, many Amish-made products will last for generations themselves, offering value for decades to come.

I really respect the Amish community. Instead of the”English” looking at the as if in a fish bowl we should stop an take lessons from they, the way they parent their children too love God,hard workers, respect their parents, elders, and all living things. Most of all the love of family. How they help their neighbors. Amish stores in and around Ellenburgh ny.
I recently bought a summer cabin on Chateaugay Lake in Chateaugay NY. I have seen the presence of Amish neighbors on my lake road, Ellenburgh, Burke ,Malone etc. Is there a listing of crafts people in that area and carpenters to build a deck on the back of my log cabin?
I would love to know where to visit while I’m up there and find crafted projects and carpenters.thanks
Amish Carpenters in and around Chateaugay Lake NY
Through a contact I made at a barn builders business on Rte.11 near Ellenburgh I was able to get a contact of an Amish crew that builds decks in my area. It wasn’t through this blog that it was obtained. I’m having estimate done on Labor Day at my cabin. So happy. If interested I can tell you how it panned out.
need a shoe cobbler
I desperately need a shoe cobbler to build up a sole on a new shoe in the Kalona area?
I am looking for
I used to live in Waynesboro Tn. that is about 15miles from Lawrenceburg Tn. I went to a “machine shop” on the right side of the rd. (don’t remember the name) but there was a feed store on the left side of the road owned by a grumpy old American– I think the store was called grumpy’s or something like that, anyway, I would travel to the machine shop to get something made if the gentleman is still there. I have no way to find out and I now live about 250 miles away, not the kind of trip you want to take just to see if he is still there. Anyway, he has a neighbor who trained my horse to pull, that young man was moving but I am in hopes the other man has not. If anyone knows what I am talking about I would really like to know if he still has a shop there. I also have a suggestion: I have seen a directory sold in some Amish stores, that’s nice but to us “English” it is pretty much useless, to be of use to outsiders as well as the Amish it should be listed by what these people do, I have a difficult last name and I can say with confidence most of the Amish do as well, So rather than knowing how to find “Thomas” I would rather look for the town I live in and what trades are offered — then the person to contact. This is just a suggestion, but the directory only works for the Amish, not the English. Thank you for your time.
horse training
I have a few horses I would like to have trained to pull, I live in Glasgow Ky. now and haven’t been able to find anyone to train my horse. I tried clicking on the “horse related” listing, nothing happened, again if your “directory” was more specific I would buy it, but it doesn’t help a person just to see contact information if you don’t know what that person does for a living. I know there is a large Amish community in or near this area as I see them everywhere, I am amazed that when I stop an Amish person and ask they don’t seem to know anyone that does it either, who trains their horses?
Amish Horse Trainers
Watergap Stables in Lancaster County Pa. trains horses to ride and drive. I personally sent my Paint mare there to be trained to drive many years ago. They sent me weekly updates on how she was doing and she came home in excellent condition. She was and still is very well trained both to ride and drive. I highly recommend them. They do have a website and their phone # is 610-593-2000. Just tell them the lady from Wantage, NJ with the Paint mare Misty sent you. Good luck!

I am ‘toying’ (no pun intended) with the idea of bringing a wood toy to the online market.
I was wondering if somebody either could put me in contact with or build small toys for babies or toddlers? Some guidelines:
1) product must conform to CPSIA
2) Eco friendly wood
3) maybe drool resistant paint or no paint
4) US made of course
Please let me know if you can meet the above If you are able and interested, I can forward you a sample sketch for your review and pricing. I am looking forward to your positive response.
Warm Regards,
Ralph

The Amish Are Right
I am starting my journey to tell all the churches that I am suppose to notify. I have been separated from my wife and 5 kids and labeled crazy by them as well as our local church. Crazy because of things that have transpired over the last 2yrs. I am a member of the 144,000 and would like to publicly declare on behalf of the Amish that they were right about electricity. Along my journey I have been unemployed and studied many things that God has put not only into my heart to recognize but into my eyes to see. Well, here it goes…Electricity is used as a transportation tool by the Devil and other entities of the darkness. The most popular tool are “black mirrors” (TV’s). The reason they are of the “darkness” is because they are from a higher dimension. As a higher dimensional object, they can see our dimension (4D) plus through us. Possession is very easy for the sons of disobedience. How is travel possible you ask…that’s when I began to study Quantam Physics. How do I know I am a member of 144,000? Lets just say it started with a hair growing in the middle of my forehead (in about 1-2sec). How am I doing being separated from my family? Well, my parents are deseased and my 2 brothers won’t speak to me (cause I mentioned God to them), and As far as my wife and kids….God assured me 1yr prior to our separation “They will be taken care of”. It has been hard at times but God always wipes away my tears…who else can??? God Bless All That Read This and Take It To Heart! Soon, very soon!

I need to find an Amish seamstress immediately.
Good afternoon, Friends,
I live in Spring City, PA, which is approximately half-way between Lancaster County, PA, and Philadelphia, PA. Though I do take sewing lessons, I do not at all have the sewing skills necessary to alter or resize any clothing–it’ll take me years to get to that level of skill. I own several authentic Amish dresses that are lovely, but which don’t fit me, and I’m sick of them hanging in the closet day after day. Mainstream/English tailors and seamstresses tend to not do well with Amish clothing–they’re not trained for it. Therefore, I am posting this message to ask if anyone can point me to an Amish seamstress, or just any regular Amish girl or lady in PA who knows how to sew well and will take me on. Any info. is greatly welcome.
