I am looking to have some furniture made. I want to deal directly with the wood maker and not the middle man, retailer or broker. I know the Amish can not market and sell their own furniture due to their belief system and because of that, they usually go through a retailer who usually adds on a hefty margin. I have a budget and with the retailer’s markup, Amish furniture is out of my range and my business would, reluctantly, have to go towards a mass produced product that was made somewhere in Asia.
Is there a way for me to get in touch directly with some woodmaker(s)? I live in the Milwaukee area so I am willing to deal with anyone within 150 miles from where I am.
Any help is much appreciated.
Locating builders of Amish furniture
Yes, as far as getting in touch many of the businesses I am pointing you towards have phone #s listed, just check those pages I mentioned above, plus pretty much every state has a listing off the main directory page if you want to see others.
The ones in IL and IN are probably beyond your 150 mile range, though some may be close depending what side of Milwaukee you are on. If so check other states, Wisconsin’s listing at present unfortunately mostly has retailers only, would like to fill that one out with more manufacturers’ info as I get ahold of it.

Many if not most Amish businesses have some sort of phone associated with the business. May belong solely to the business or shared with other households, in many (but not all) cases you just leave a voice mail and your call is returned.

Allison this is a late reply but in your area, you are probably too far from Amish–there is one community in your state, but I kind of doubt they would be what you are looking for. On rare occasions Amish do travel and stay in an area for an extended time but for a job that takes as long as building a new home it would probably be a hard sell, unless the price was really right. Sorry I don’t have better news.

We had a barn fire in March 2014. We have tried to locate a contractor through horse friends and have not been successful. It has been 3 months and we are getting anxious as horses need a home. I hope to have a 2 story 30’x50′ Bank Barn built into the hill with a third story storage of . I will have a foundation already built I think.

Hello, my wife and I are possibly looking for a Amish crew who would be able to erect a log kit. Possibly from start to finish, depending on pricing. We have jumped too quickly and have a kit, but no builders that’s not throwing us exorbitantly amount to build. I’ve done a lot of research, and prior to the last 10 yrs and now the major fire in E;TN, prices have jumped 3x the average price of stick built. (The new Florida, supply and demand !) Hello! I will not be back to this site, however, I need an Amish group who would build me a tiny house in Montana with a foundation. I could do some of the work myself. I am losing time and aging and I have never been able to own a home. Greed and need for people who want every low priced home they can find for rentals – I am unable to compete with the haste in which they purchase a propert. Numerous times the land lords I have, do not care about the smoke and other smoked items in their rentals and I have become seriously ill due to landlord’s carelessness. One flatout lied to me when I asked if any meth users had been in the rental. After moving in, my teeth began to chip and I ordered a residential meth test kit and it lit up like a Christmas tree.
