Two Amish Girls in Critical Condition After Another Michigan Buggy Crash

The Amish girls’ ages are 1 and 10 years old. From upnorthlive.com:
GLADWIN COUNTY, Mich.— Several people were injured in a buggy crash on Friday.
According to the Gladwin County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, May 2nd at approximately 8:25 p.m., deputies investigated a crash near the intersection of Bard Road and Calhoun Road involving a motor vehicle and Amish Buggy.
Deputies say that the buggy was traveling southbound on Bard Road when they were hit from behind by a 2016 Nissan Versa Note, driven by a 61-year-old man from Mt. Pleasant.
It was a nighttime crash. Gladwin County has two separate Amish communities. One is a Swartzentruber Amish group. There are several accident photos including two of the buggy.

It’s hard to say from the photos provided though if this is that group or the other. One thing you can say is that this was a devastating wreck:

More details from Midland Daily News:
The buggy was driven by a man, 62, who was accompanied by his wife, 60, both of Clare, and their granddaughters, ages 1 and 10, of Gladwin. According to the Gladwin County Sheriff’s Office, the buggy was hit from behind by a 61-year-old Mount Pleasant man driving a 2016 Nissan Versa Note. Both drivers were heading south on Bard Road.
Both drivers were taken to MyMichigan Medical Center Midland. The driver of the buggy suffered minor injuries. His wife was not injured. The children suffered life-threatening injuries and were transferred from MMMC Midland to Flint Hurley Hospital and were in stable but critical condition as of Monday morning.

And the post from the Gladwin County Sheriff’s Office:
Another bad Michigan buggy accident
When the last reported Michigan buggy accident occurred in late March, claiming an Amish girl’s life, I posted a partial review of significant car-buggy accidents in the state. That included three accidents in the past eight years in which three children lost their lives each time.
I can say that I have the impression that bad buggy accidents occur frequently in Michigan. That’s not conclusive that Michigan has more buggy accidents per capita, of course. They may just be better-reported in the state. Michigan also has the sixth-largest Amish population of any state, with over 20,000 Amish people in over 50 locations.
It goes without saying that we hope these little girls have the best outcome possible and make a full recovery.
