Amish Girl Killed In (Another) Michigan Crash; Driver Arrested For “Suspected Substance Use”
From WWMT:
VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — A young girl is dead and a boy is in critical condition after a buggy crash.
A 31-year-old Mattawan woman was arrested for “suspected substance use” after she rear-ended an Amish buggy on County Road 215 and 60th Avenue Wednesday, killing an 8-year-old girl and critically injuring a 12-year-old boy who were both passengers in the buggy, according to Michigan State Police (MSP) officials.
The horse pulling the buggy also had to be put down due to its severe injuries from the crash.
“Substance use” could mean different things; a report from WOOD TV said she was booked “on suspicion of being under the influence”, and that “what that substance was remained under investigation.” More from that WOOD TV report:
“We will complete a report that will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office to seek charges against her,” Robinson said.
At the scene of the crash later Wednesday, News 8 saw long black skid marks on the road and orange paint marking evidence for the crash investigators.
“You can see the skid marks up here. She had to be moving pretty good,” neighbor Paul Landeck told News 8, saying he also saw parts from the front end of the truck scattered along the road near his home.

The community where this happened is in Van Buren County, west of Kalamazoo. The boy remains in critical condition.
Do buggy crashes happen more often in Michigan?
Someone who passed the link “Seems like Michigan is bad for this stuff.” Indeed there do seem to be more headline-making bad accidents from that state than others, although I don’t have figures to back that up.
But this isn’t even the only fatal Michigan accident this month. An Amishman recently passed away, two weeks after a head-on collision in Gladwin County.
There have also been multiple accidents in Michigan where multiple children lost their lives. In the past eight years, three separate horse-and-buggy accidents have happened in which three children lost their lives each time- in 2017, and twice in 2019.

Again, another problem with people driving cars and people under the influence.
So when is the gov’t going to do something about this? I’m waiting. Still waiting.
Some people like to complain about the Amish horse and buggy on the roads, but they sure are quiet about bad drivers and substance abuse that cause far far more damage and harm.
I’m still waiting.
One of the many downfalls of having legal pot in Michigan.
Legal pot?
If someone is smoking pot, they need NOT be driving a vehicle. Those skid marks are long, she was flying!! I am SO sick and tired of these irresponsible people who don’t care what harm they cause to others. The poor children, and horse, did NOT deserve this!!!! MAKE HER PAY!!
