Bull Attacks Man At Amish Farm

A bull, but not the offender in this case

Not a headline I’d seen before, but it happens. A man was apparently attacked and rammed by a bull on an Amish farm in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania earlier this afternoon.

The article does not actually identify the man as Amish – but that would be the assumption (though in theory it could be a non-Amish person visiting the farm). Here are more details from the report at Penn Live:

The attack happened around 3 p.m. at an Amish farm along the 100 block of East Main Street in Menno Township, dispatchers said.

After emergency crews arrived in the area, a helicopter was requested on standby.

The injured man told first responders he thinks he suffered a collapsed lung, but the extent of his injuries remains unclear.

Dispatchers noted the man had bruising and swelling on his back and was having difficulties breathing. First responders also said the bull rammed the man with its head.

Mifflin County is home to one of the state’s larger Amish communities, the unique “Big Valley” settlement. This happened at a farm in Allensville.

The Big Valley community is home to three main Amish groups (with subgroups), each driving a different-colored buggy – Nebraska Amish (white buggies), Renno Amish (black buggies), and Byler Amish (yellow buggies).

Hopefully this man is alright. One of the hazards of farming I suppose. Some Amish farmers use artificial insemination to breed their cows, but not all.
