Ben & Rose Short: “This World Is Not My Home”

“I can’t feel at home in this world anymore.” It’s a sentiment that resonates with a lot of us, at times stronger than at others, I suspect. That is one of the best-known lines from “This World Is Not My Home”.
And Ben and Rose are back to tease another upcoming (I assume) production, with this little demo sample of the well-known hymn.
This song was arranged by Albert E. Brumley in 1937; as to the author of the words of the hymn, I’m only finding that he or she or they are “unknown”. Wherever it originated, it has an interesting lineage which is detailed in depth here.

In fact it appears this, or some version of it, was being recorded even back in the 1920s. But it appears the most famous version of it was recorded by Jim Reeves in 1962; which you can listen to here:
I have to say that I appreciate that Ben and Rose do a lot of the older hymns in addition to some more contemporary ones. It’s nice to hear fresh life breathed into old classics (this song might be my favorite instance of them doing just that).

Here are the lyrics of the section we hear in this 25-second snippet by Ben and Rose:
Oh Lord, you know
I have no friend like you
If heaven’s not my home
Then Lord, what will I do?The angels beckon me
From heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home
In this world anymore

I expect we’ll get a full version at some point, as has been the pattern. For now, enjoy a listen to Ben and Rose playing a demo of the hymn at Ragamuffin Hall, and stay tuned (I hope) for the full studio production. I’ll look forward to this one:

Lovely song & Bens hair looks very nice! Clean cut.
