Woman Hits Amish Teen, But Continues Driving To Work – Because She Didn’t Want To Be Late

I thought I’d maybe heard it all by now. I guess not. From Penn Live:
A woman was charged after she continued driving to work after hitting a horse buggy, injuring a 17-year-old last month in Lancaster County, police said in court documents.
Reyna Mondragon Reza, 41, of Chester County, was charged with a misdemeanor count of accident involving injury while not licensed, and driving with a suspended or revoked license, and multiple traffic offenses, according to charging documents filed by Pennsylvania State police.
Police said Reza rear-ended the wheel of an eastbound buggy around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 10 near 447 Ashville Road in Little Britain Township.
The impact launched the 17-year-old from his seat through the air on the open buggy before he landed in the grass off the road, court documents said.
The horse hauling the buggy became separated and ran across a field. The buggy came to final rest several yards from the teen, according to the affidavit.

Reza continued on to her job at the water authority in Chester County. The Daily Voice gives more details on what happened with the Amish teen afterwards:
The boy suffered a bruise on his leg and hip, according to court documents. He retrieved the horse on his own, and the two walked home, where he reported the crash to his father.
I’m not getting the thought process here. Leaving aside the disregard for someone’s life, did she really think she wouldn’t be caught? Footage from her workplace showed her arriving right after the accident, with “fresh damage” to her car.
And just checking in for a day’s work, after you’ve just hit somebody, launching them into the air – and don’t know if they’re injured – or perhaps dead?
She knew she had done something wrong, as evidenced by her return to the scene of the crash:
Reza told police she felt the impact from hitting the buggy, but she continued driving because she didn’t want to be late for work, the affidavit said. She also said the sun was very bright at the time of the crash.
Reza said she looked in her rearview mirror and didn’t see anything, so she continued driving and waited until after work to return to the crash scene.
So presumably hours later, she went back to check up on things? It’s a major head-scratcher and shows little regard for another person’s life.
The Charges
Reza apparently had a suspended driver’s license, and a previous criminal record in Pennsylvania and Delaware, according to the Daily Voice. She also had multiple birth dates listed in her records, with her name listed as an alias. She has been charged with a list of offenses:
- Accidents involving death or injury while not licensed — acting with negligence.
- Driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked.
- Duty to give information, render aid.
- Reckless driving.
- Careless driving.
- Drivers required to be licensed.
- Other traffic-related offenses.
Just glad the teen is more-or-less physically okay here, and the horse as well. Yet another person who shouldn’t be behind the wheel, but somehow continues to drive.

God is in charge
This story is heartbreaking and bewildering all at once. It sounds like Mrs. Reza has a lot going on in her life that needs sorting out. I’m struggling to understand how someone could leave the scene of an accident—especially after launching a teenager out of a buggy—and continue on to work as if nothing happened. Did she truly expect to keep her job after something like this? Even when I’ve overslept an alarm and shown up late, employers have understood. Most people would rather hear the truth than have an employee abandon someone who’s been hurt on the road.
If Mrs. Reza knows anything about the Amish, she might realize they very rarely sue. They live Romans 12:19–20 every day: “Beloved, do not avenge yourselves… ‘Vengeance is mine; I will repay,’ saith the Lord.” They believe God’s law is higher than man’s law, and He will make all things right in His own time.
If we think back to the Nickel Mines tragedy in 2006, the Amish extended love and service to the shooter’s family—something the world could hardly understand. That’s simply how they’re taught to respond: with forgiveness, not revenge.
I’m grateful the 17-year-old and his horse are okay. Bruised, yes—but alive and home safe.
As the Amish say, “It is far better to forgive and forget than to resent and remember.”
Amen
Roads
Most of the roads around there are too narrow for the buggies. They need a full lane, not just the shoulder. That woman should be in jail. I’m glad teen is ok.
Woman Hits Buggy Continues Driving
I agree. Lock her up -clearly driving on a suspended license or even without one is meaningless for her- and throw away the dang key! I have zero tolerance for people like her and I do not feel sorry for them when they wind up behind bars. ‘Nuff said.
New set of wheels
I think Mrs. Reza should turn in her car and get a horse and buggy.Perhaps she will learn some valuable lessons or maybe we should all stay off the roads when she’s out!
I guess she didn’t have auto insurance either
Brilliant
LOVE this! The Amish have a saying – “Instead of putting others in their place, put yourself in their place.”
Immigration Status
Please check this awful woman’s immigration status. I bet she is illegal! If so, deport her asap
That’s what I think, call ICE, probably illegal. Illegals have killed MANY people on the roads, I can immediately think of one pregnant young woman in North Carolina, and a friend of my daughter’s was put in a wheelchair for life by one.
Because she doesn’t think the law will catch up to her. Revoking someone’s license does not stop them from driving sad to say.
Comment
So I guess nobody wants to work these days but since she hit someone she decided “Oh, I like my job! Better not be late today!” Sis’ naddish!
Sadly, there are a lot of people like this Reyna Mondragon Reza, who just don’t care. Literally, they don’t care. And it is difficult for some to comprehend this. They literally only think of themselves.
As for the ‘illegal’ part that some have wrote in the comments, the Lancaster area is increasingly changing to more and more populated and having a changing demographic.
I’m not taking sides on this issue.
Just pointing out that Philadelphia and other city governments have sent people into Lancaster and surrounding areas. That’s why if you visit, you will see the demographics changing. Some homeless/mental health/drug addiction are given 1 way bus tickets to surrounding areas like Delaware and Lancaster. Basically, the city does not want to deal with these people so they are trying to get rid of them.
Also, Philadelphia has sent a ton of people into areas like Lancaster for ‘work.’
Overpopulate Lancaster and surrounding areas = increase in taxes/costs = Amish have a harder time keeping the land as it gets too expensive and are forced to find work further away from home = developers taking the land for housing development, apartments, shopping centers, and so on.
In other words, the land in Lancaster is worth BILLIONS to government in taxes and developers for construction projects. The end game is to pressure the Amish to assimilate or price them out.
Thankful the young man and his vehicle are okay. Wondering how the perpetrator feels about her actions, since she is not legally to be driving nor in this country. And how, with multiple IDs did she get hired for a municipal position !?
