Hit & Run Driver Injures Six Amish, Kills Horse (Virginia)

Six Amish people were injured – including three juveniles – in the latest buggy wreck in Virginia.
This one happened yesterday evening in Buckingham County, VA, (Farmville community) site of previous crashes including one which left eight Amish children orphaned.
In this crash it appears that everyone has survived – though some may be seriously injured. From WDBJ:
BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – Virginia State Police are investigating a hit-and-run involving an Amish buggy Sunday evening.
Six people on the buggy were hurt, including three juveniles, in the incident that occured [sic] at approximately 6:01 p.m. August 17, 2025 on Route 20 in Buckingham County.
At least some of the injuries are reportedly serious, according to police.
Details in reporting are scarce at this time, but a suspect has been taken into custody. No names have been made public, and no word on charges, but you’d have to presume they are coming.

The horse was reported to have died at the scene. As to some of the injuries being “reportedly serious”, this detail from the Farmville Herald suggests the same:
Two helicopters were called to the scene to transport the injured. Multiple fire and emergency medical crews were called to the scene and are treating the others involved.
So with air transport to hospitals, it sounds like there are in fact some seriously injured. Prayers that they make it through.
Buggy safety in Virginia has been a focus of concern for some time as both the population of the Amish in the state – and the number of locations where they live (now up to 16 settlements) have been steadily increasing in recent years.
