Somehow, The Amish Family In This Buggy Suffered Only “Minor Injuries”
This accident happened last week in Brunswick County, Virginia, leading to “minor injuries” for the Amish family in the buggy. But that’s not what you’d think when you take a look at the photo:

That buggy looks like it’s been annihilated. Here’s what happened:
Amish family members aboard a horse-drawn wagon suffered minor injuries after the buggy was hit by a car on Route 1 in Brunswick County last week.
According to Virginia State Police, the Amish horse and buggy was struck by a vehicle driven by Claude E. Brummett, 68, of Lawrenceville Tuesday, July 22 around 7 a.m. Brummett was behind the wheel of a 2003 Honda CR-V when the vehicle rear-ended the wagon. The wagon, driven by Mahlon Miller, 21, of Alberta overturned and landed in a nearby ditch.
Virginia State Police say both drivers suffered injuries, but no one was transported to the hospital.
The horse also only had minor injuries. Perhaps they were thrown from the wreckage. The buggy looks like it might have rolled over once or twice as it made its way into the ditch.

One note: There is currently no Amish community listed for Brunswick County, VA in the latest Amish settlement listings. There is a small settlement in next-door Mecklenburg County, though quite small, and located some distance from the county lines.
So this may be a new or newish, and/or “undocumented” Amish community (with close to 700 settlements, the makers of the list can certainly be forgiven missing one or two here and there).
That seems to be the case, going on this Facebook post from November 2024, “welcom[ing] the Amish community to Brunswick County”:
Looks can be deceiving
In Amish buggy wrecks, the picture of the buggy doesn’t always tell you how its occupants fared. This incident brings to mind a 2019 wreck in Prince Edward Island, Canada where the buggy involved was obliterated.
The driver was described as merely “shaken, not injured”. Here’s what his vehicle looked like:

Sometimes, Someone may be looking out for you. This Amish family can certainly count their blessings.
