Five Amish Children in Serious-to-Critical Condition After ANOTHER Michigan Crash (Update: 4-Month-Old Baby Dies From Injuries)

I know I’ve been beating this drum a lot lately…but I really can’t believe how many accidents (and some of them not at all accidents) we’re seeing reported out of Michigan lately.
When I started drawing attention to the seemingly high number of incidents out of the state back in March – and things seem to have only gotten worse.
Following Sunday’s report of six Amish seriously injured in a suspected DUI incident, there was a horrible van wreck in the thumb region yesterday – which claimed five Amish lives.

Also yesterday, the driver of a pickup truck hit a buggy in Montcalm County, leaving five Amish children seriously to critically injured. Two adults in the buggy were also injured. More on that incident:
Five children who were riding in an Amish buggy were among eight people injured when a pickup truck and buggy collided Tuesday in mid-Michigan’s Montcalm County.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Lakeview post, which are investigating the crash, said all five children were taken to a hospital, where they were listed in serious to critical condition.
A woman who was in the buggy also went to the hospital where she was listed in critical condition. A man who was in the buggy had minor injuries.

There are not many more details than that at this time, nor have I found any local news reporting on the accident. It’s also likely overshadowed at this moment by the van accident.
Montcalm County is home to two separate Amish settlements, one of which has been around since 1973 (in the Greenville & Six Lakes area). Based on where this happened, that’s in all likelihood the community where the Amish in this accident are from.
The sad thing is that it’s gotten hard to keep up with all the buggy wrecks, in particular those happening in the Great Lakes State.
Update: 4-Month-Old Succumbs To Injuries
This story has been updated with the news that a four-month-old baby has died from injuries suffered in the crash. From Bridge Michigan:
A 4-month-old girl died on Wednesday from injuries suffered when a truck struck a horse-drawn buggy she was riding in, police said, highlighting ongoing safety concerns about such vehicles.
Four other children and two adults in the buggy also were injured in the Tuesday crash on M-91 in Montcalm Township, about 35 northeast of Grand Rapids.
The crash is under investigation.
