Jim Halverson is back with another look around the Cass City, Michigan Amish community – this one taking in a local Amish-attended garage sale, marked with balloons out front – along with a few other sights from around the settlement.

We’ve previously seen how garage sales are popular with the Amish in northern Indiana.

This one was being run out of a greenhouse: secondhand dresses, shirts, and men’s suits on hangers, greeting cards by the boxful, and plant tables out front.

Cass City is one of Michigan’s 50-plus Amish settlements. Around 965 Amish call it home, which lands it among the state’s ten largest communities. We’ve been before – here’s Jim’s first set from Cass City, and a look inside one of its stores.

Let’s have a look at the set. Inside, we see what looks like greeting cards, sorted and boxed. And this sale was not just for the Amish.

Racks of clothing, each item with a price tag.

Men’s items with the measurements written out, and a price to match. Two and three dollars apiece! We can see that clothing is one area where the Amish save money.

More items, with the highest-priced we’ve seen here – at eight dollars.

I’m not quite sure what’s in those buckets, something fruity it looks like. Pulled out of an ice house or other cooled/insulated space.

Sawmills are a popular way of making a living in some communities, especially plainer ones, but not only.

Back to the garage sale – looks like folks are on their way home after making some finds.

Thanks again to Jim for taking us along. The next best thing to being there.
