This Video of Amish Children Singing Christmas Carols Will Warm Your Heart

Here’s a great video of a group of Amish people – mostly children – stopping by to sing Christmas carols at an English friend’s home. This was filmed in Holmes County, Ohio.

The friend is P. Thomas, who you may remember from other singing videos we’ve shared here. The singing true to form is lovely and they have quite a good-sized group here.

I had the chance to do some caroling with Amish friends several years ago. We walked around the neighborhood as it were, and sang for families in the nearby houses.

Just a few homes, but it was enough to feel the spirit of caroling, which is something I’d never done before at least not in the going from home-to-home way of doing it.
By the way, in this next screen shot you can see some of the parents accompanying the children and youth. This is a New Order Amish group – who also use the horse-and-buggy, but are generally less camera-shy than most Amish.

House-to-house always felt a bit Charles Dickens to me, but it’s something that the Amish like to do – and I think it would be neat if more non-Amish still did it as well.

You’ll notice that at the start of this video, Phil asks how many of them had gotten drawings from the “Swiss Cheese Man”, which is somethin he is known for 🙂 “Everybody gets a Smartie” he promises at the end, and that encourages a mini-rush to the front 🙂

The songs here are “Christ the Savior is Born”, two which I’m not sure of the titles, and a bit of “We Wish You A Joyous Christmas” at the end. Enjoy a listen here:

The Swiss cheese man? Is he the mouse from The Budget? Is this Holmes County? Looks familiar.
I’m not sure about the Budget but he’s good at drawings! Phil shares a lot of nice music videos as well, often from New Order Amish singings.
Amish Sing Christmas Carols
Wow . . . !! How lucky is your friend?? I’d cry tears of joy if a group of young people took time from their busy day to stop by and sing songs to me. Thanks for the uplifting story/video. Merry Christmas to everyone, and Peace on Earth.
Joyful
Wow! What joyful singing. When I was a young person most church youth groups caroled door to door in our small town. It really is a special treat.
Amish children singing
These children are not New Order, I don’t believe! Their coats are Old Order if I may have my guess. I could be wrong, but we can usually tell on such things.
