Amish 15-Year-Old Ejected From Buggy In Missouri Crash

The Jamesport, Missouri Amish community was the scene of an accident which caused a 15-year-old Amish boy to be ejected from the buggy he was driving.
The boy landed in a ditch on the side of the road, sustaining “moderate” injuries in the crash, which happened yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon. More:
An Amish buggy crash on Wednesday afternoon injured a 15-year-old boy on Highway 190 two miles south of Jamesport, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at 4:42 p.m. on August 20, 2025, when a northbound 2019 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 74-year-old man from Chillicothe struck the rear driver’s side of the buggy. Troopers reported the crash occurred as the Silverado attempted to avoid the northbound buggy.
The 15-year-old boy from Jamesport, who was operating the buggy, was ejected into a ditch on the east side of the roadway. He sustained moderate injuries and was transported by Daviess County EMS to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
The driver was described as “attempting to avoid” the buggy, which by this description was in his same lane of travel and which he presumably saw.

It sounds like he either saw it too late to respond in time, or it might have been a case of misjudging distance or speed.
The boy was transported to a Kansas City hospital around 80 miles away. There is no word on the horse, though the buggy is said to have sustained “extensive damage”.

The Jamesport area of Daviess and neighboring counties is home to one of the larger and best-known Amish settlements in the Show-Me State.
Back in May this same community saw an accident in which a five-year-old Amish boy was seriously injured when the horse he was riding on was struck by a Jeep.
