Just an awful story out of the New Wilmington, Pennsylvania Amish community. A two-year-old boy has died, after falling into an open septic tank. From New Castle News:

The Lawrence County Coroner’s Office and state police investigated the drowning death of a 2-year-old Amish boy who reportedly fell into an open septic tank Saturday.

The child, identified as Steven Byler, was discovered deceased around 11 a.m. in the yard of his family’s Wilmington Township home, according to Coroner Richard “R.J.” Johnson.

Johnson said the child had been reported missing by his parents and was subsequently located inside the septic tank.

Despite efforts by family members, the child could not be resuscitated.

Apparently during “ongoing construction and maintenance of the system”, the tank had been left uncovered, and the lid not replaced, due to issues related to recent rainfall.

The incident was ruled an accident: “State police Cpl. Randy Guy said the circumstances are consistent with an accidental fall and drowning.”

This is one you don’t even want to think about. This poor child. I don’t have much else to say besides keep this family in your prayers.
