Samantha Petersen Pleads Guilty in Crash That Killed Two Amish Girls

Samantha Petersen

A month ago, it was announced that a plea agreement had been arranged for Samantha Petersen, the driver in the crash which took two Amish girl’s lives in Fillmore County, Minnesota in 2023. Today, Petersen officially pleaded guilty.

From KROC News:

Preston, MN (KROC-AM News) – The former Stewartville woman who was behind the wheel of the SUV that smashed into an Amish buggy and killed two young children in 2023 finalized a previously announced plea agreement today.

Thirty-seven-year-old Samantha Petersen, who currently has a Wabasha address, was accused of being under the influence of methamphetamine when the deadly crash occurred on Fillmore County Road 1 near Stewartville. The crash claimed the lives of 7-year-old Wilma and 11-year-old Irma Miller. Two of their siblings survived but suffered serious injuries.

Petersen had 15 of 17 counts dismissed in the deal. As it stands, it looks like the “best case” (for her) has her serving just one year in jail, with the “worst case” being a four-year prison sentence.

Sentencing will happen in September. More:

Under the terms of her plea deal, Petersen will be afforded the opportunity to argue for a downward departure from state sentencing guidelines. If the court denies her request, the plea agreement calls for her to serve a four-year prison sentence.

Samantha’s sister Sarah, who attempted to take the fall for Samantha, was sentenced to 90 days in jail for her part.

The girls who died were named Irma and Wilma Miller.

Irma Miller, age 11, and sister Wilma Miller, age 7

    Samantha Peterson Pleads Guilty

As a resident (born/raised) of Minnesota, all I can say about Samantha Peterson & her plea agreement is ‘Jesus Quincy Adams’!!! I mean, you use a banned, controlled substance like Methamphetamine, kill 2 innocent children and seriously injure 2 more, and the state hands you a sentence of anywhere from 1-4 years. Wow!! What a gift. The sick part of this whole case is that these two women will never stop with their wild ways. One has to wonder if they somehow feel as though they are the “victims” here. Maybe I should move to their area & run for public office instead of what I’m doing now?? Thanks for the updates, Erik.
