New From Mike & Marty: “Vision of Mother”

“Vision of Mother” is one of the sadder songs we’ve seen Mike and Marty do – a tune paying tribute to a beloved mother who has passed away.

This one follows their version of “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” from back in June, which was also a song about a mother’s passing. So it’s a theme they’ve gone to twice in a short period now.

The song was written in 1949 by Carter Stanley as “A Vision of Mother”, and then recorded with his brother Ralph as the Stanley Brothers, a bluegrass duo. It has been recorded by other artists a number of times since.

Mike and Marty are joined by a friend on this one, described in the notes as “John ‘Shady’ from Indiana,” who sings the final verse. His voice adds a nice change of pace to the song.
