New From Ben & Rose: “If I Needed You”

Ben and Rose return with their first full video in a little while. This one is called “If I Needed You”. In contrast to some of their latest, this is a more contemporary song, written by Townes Van Zandt in 1972.
I would call this an “upbeat ballad”. Nice guitar playing and wonderful singing together as usual.

Interestingly they are in a different setting here than in other videos. This is inside the main hall of the former historic church building at Ragamuffin Hall.
They’ve shot a lot of their videos both inside and outside the studio, but this is the first I recall seeing in this part of the building.

If I Needed You by Townes Van Zandt – Lyrics
If I needed you, would you come to me?
Would you come to me and ease my pain?
If you needed me, I would come to you
I’d swim the seas for to ease your painWell, in the night forlorn, oh, the morning’s born
And the morning shines with the lights of love
And you will miss sunrise if you close your eyes
And that would break my heart in twoThe lady’s with me now since I showed her how
To lay her lily hand in mine
Loop and Lil agree, she’s a sight to see
A treasure for the poor to findWell, if I needed you, would you come to me?
Would you come to me and ease my pain?
If you needed me, I would come to you
I would swim the seas for to ease your pain

Just a musical note, on this song they use a dobro, with playing by Jacob Metz. This is a type of guitar that is played with it laying flat on your lap, and which produces a twangy resonating sound. Very nice touch.

This is an understated, gentle, lovely tune by the musical couple. Enjoy a listen here:

Perfect
Excellent. The dobro is the icing on this ccake.
Country Music
I’m not a big fan of country music, but it seems to me Ben and Rose might consider going on the road if they haven’t thought about it already. I imagine they might need to talk this idea over with their bishop; they are at least as good as any country music I’ve heard on the radio. The title of the song reminded me of the Beatles’ song “If I Needed Someone” (Rubber Soul Album).
