Amish Resident Cares For Lost One-Eyed Pony – As Deputies Seek Owner (Kentucky)

Not your everyday story here, but one that hopefully will have a happy ending soon. This story comes to us from Christian County, Kentucky – a county with a significant presence of both Amish and Mennonites.
A lost pony – which happens to have only one eye – is currently waiting in temporary digs for its owner to come forward and claim it. From Christian County Now:
CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A lost pony found on the roads of Christian County is being held in a temporary home while the owners can be tracked down.
On Sept. 9, deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a pony on the loose in Herndon who was seen running down Highway 117.
Deputies were not able to locate the owner, so she is being cared for by a local Amish resident until she is claimed.
If a pony is going to get lost, it could do worse than to end up in the care of a “horse culture” people like the Amish or plain Mennonites. Given where they found it (running down a highway), I guess it’s fortunate it wasn’t involved in an accident.
Christian County has two Amish settlements – one of around 420 Amish, lying fully in the county, and a second of well over 2,000 Amish, shared with next-door Trigg County.

I imagine with this description, the owner will be swiftly found. There can’t be that many one-eyed ponies running around Christian County.
By the same token, were it a pony owned by an Amish person, it would have probably been swiftly reunited with its owner by now. Especially given the typical close-knit nature of smaller Amish settlements in particular

The pony is described as brown in color, with a light brown mane. Anyone with information can reach the Christian County ECC non-emergency line at 270-890-1300.

Lost One-Eyed Pony Gets Help
I sure hope she wasn’t fleeing from an abusive/neglectful situation. Who knows, maybe she’s always wanted to have herself a “Me” day & thought a little trot down the road would do the trick?? Lol. An animal lover myself, my heartfelt thanks to those caring for her. Lovely end to a scary story.
