4-Year-Old Amish Boy Was Crossing The Road To A Nearby Farm When A Tractor-Trailer Struck & Killed Him

Yet another tragic accident out of the Lancaster County community. This one happened a week ago, with new details emerging recently. A four-year-old Amish boy was killed by a tractor-trailer in southern Chester County, Pennsylvania last month. The child was walking to a farm across the road to help with farm work, according to state police.
The crash happened around 12:25 p.m. on September 24 on Route 41, just north of Highland Road in West Fallowfield Township. PennLive reported the crash at the time. New details came out today in a story at PennLive:
Prior to the fatal crash, state police said, the 4-year-old boy was walking through the grass along the southbound shoulder of Route 41. He then crossed the road into the northbound lane.
Moments later, he was struck by a tractor-trailer.
Officials, including a Pennsylvania State Trooper and a Chester County Commissioner, commented on the loss:
“The child was from the Amish community,” said Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Michael Carter Jr., public information officer for Troop J in London Grove Township. “The child was walking along SR 41 to get to a farm on the other side to assist with farm duties.”
“This is an unimaginable tragedy, and my heart goes out to this child’s family and everyone who loved him. The loss of a 4-year old is heartbreaking beyond words,” Chester County Commissioner Marian Moskowitz said.
Emergency responders from Christiana took the boy to Lancaster General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m. Local officials say he lived on a family farm in Highland Township. The crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed. Prayers for his family. It’s hard to imagine what they must be going through.
The Amish in neighboring Chester County are considered part of the Lancaster County settlement, which sprawls over multiple counties and even into Maryland.
Sadly, he is the third child to die in an accident in the Lancaster community in recent weeks.
In mid-September, a 16-year-old died in a fall from a horse-drawn wagon while harvesting corn. The next day, a three-year-old boy was run over and killed by a forklift on the farm where he lived.
