New Song From Mike & Marty (Formerly Third Fret Harmony): “The Storms Are On The Ocean”

A nice new song was recently released by brother and sister duo Mike and Marty Fisher. First a note on their name. We’ve known them til now as Third Fret Harmony – a group which also once included their sister Rose, of Ben & Rose.
Mike has confirmed with me officially that yes, they have a new name – simply Mike & Marty. I think that’s a good move, though I do like their original name as well.

On to the song. “The Storms Are On The Ocean” apparently has roots in folk ballads originating in Britain, and was published and copyrighted by A.P. Carter of the Carter Family back in 1927.
Bob Waltz wrote for Inside Bluegrass that in fact “‘The Storms Are on the Ocean’ appears to have been assembled from at least two sources”, and perhaps more. In any case, it has become a classic of the country/folk genres.

Here are the lyrics as Mike and Marty sing them; there seem to be several variations out there.
The Storms Are On The Ocean – Lyrics
I’m going away to leave you, love
I’m going away for a while
But I’ll return to you some time
If I go 10,000 milesThe storms are on the ocean
The heavens may cease to be
This world may lose its motion, love
If I prove false to theeOh have you seen those mournful doves
Flying from pine to pine
Mourning for their own true love
Just like I mourn for mineThe storms are on the ocean
The heavens may cease to be
This world may lose its motion, love
If I prove false to theeI cry myself to sleep each night
Thinking only of you
I wonder if you’ll wait for me
To me are you still truth?I’ll never go back on the ocean love
I’ll never go back on the sea
No never go back on this blue-eyed girl
Say you’ll always love meThe storms are on the ocean
The heavens may cease to be
This world may lose its motion, love
If I prove false to thee
It’s great to see the Lancaster County siblings back with another excellent song. Enjoy a listen here:
