Lancaster County Mud Sales – 2015 Schedule

The first mud sale is just a few weeks away, so it’s high time to post this year’s schedule.

Airville Pennsylvania Mud Sale
Airville Mud Sale

Mud sales are a Lancaster County tradition dating back a half-century. The name comes from the condition of the ground during the seasonal thaw in spring.

But mud sales aren’t just a springtime occurrence, with events happening through the summer and even into autumn.

Funds raised from the auctions help local fire companies, many of which have significant Amish and Mennonite involvement.

You can see photos from reader visits to recent mud sales including Bart Township, Gordonville, and Airville (York County).

The list below, from discoverlancaster.com, includes sales in neighboring York and Chester counties.

We also plan to post a list of other 2015 Lancaster Fire Company events, including breakfasts, barbecues, and “Amish wedding meals”, which a reader has been putting together, so stay tuned.

Thanks for posting the schedule. Will be going to a few of these. Hopefully I will be able to provide some pictures for you to look at.

      1. Thanks Tom, that’d be great.

        2015???

I just subscribed to this site. Anxious to read the mud auction schedule, I was disappointed to see the schedule was for 2915. This is 2917! Please help.

        1. Hi Karen, will have a post up with the latest mud sale schedule soon – so check back or look for the notification in your email. But it will be for 2017 not 2917 😉

    2. Naomi Wilson

Today’s post is most welcome, because it means spring is just around the corner! We have been to both the Bart and Gordonville sales in past years.

I don’t suppose you would have the Ohio schedule?

      1. If you mean a list of all the Amish auctions in Ohio, I don’t have that, but maybe someone can point us in the right direction if a list like that already exists.

Last year we did a monthly listing of auctions covering all states. I’m not sure if we’ll be doing that again this year, but if so that would include Ohio auctions.

I can’t remember the name of the person who was so helpful last year in giving all of the Amish auction information, but I sure hope they do so again this year. I looked forward to it every month and will again share dates and locations of sales I know of
in Ky and southern Indiana if the monthly listing is posted again.

        Ohio Amish auctions

Two sources with information about Holmes County, Ohio events:

        http://www.thebarninn.com/calendar.htm

        http://www.auctionzip.com/cgi-bin/auctionsearch.cgi?txtSearchRadius=100&txtSearchZip=44610&txtSearchKeywords=Amish&idxSearchCategory=0&month=&year=&newsearch=1

For instance, if you go to auctionzip.com, you can search within 100 miles of the zip code for Berlin, Ohio, with the keyword Amish, in “All Auction Categories.”

This auction in West Virginia sounds kind of Amish:

      Mud Sale History

2014 was the 50th anniversary of the Bart Township Fire Company Mud Sale.
From an article last year, Feb. 2014, “50th anniversary Bart Township Auction & Mud Sale begins Friday”:
“Weidman credits the Bart Township Auction & Mud Sale as being the first of its kind in Lancaster County and the model for those that have followed. “They’re everywhere now, but we started it,” he said.”

Tom (& anyone else who gets to a mud sale), I’m holdin’ you to sharing your photos 🙂 . I agree, Naomi, spring is imminent if the mud sales are coming up…despite what that groundhog said (Woodstock Willie—Woodstock, IL where the “Groundhog Day” movie was filmed–saw his shadow on Monday.)

      Hope “Springs” eternal!

I hit about 15 sales last year and I hope that monthly listing shows up this year. Kudos to who ever put it together. It’s the best opportunity to mingle with a huge variety of Amish and OOM. Excellent food and crafts. I can’t wait.
      Thnaks.
