Outfield

Taken during an Amish kids’ ballgame in Holmes County. Looks a little lonely out there.

I’ll send a free back issue of the Connection Amish magazine to whoever submits the best caption.

“When in the Fourth Inning Samuel heard a voice saying ‘Samuel, this is your Lord, go from thence there in your field of play and bring Me an offering – a pretzel would be nice, and a slushy. No, a root beer and maybe a whoopie pie if the Pretzels aren’t fresh’ Alas Samuel reckoned his brother Benjamin was lent a megaphone from an English friend, and from thence he did not go.”

      In my pocket

Okay, now I have five four-leaf clovers in my pocket. If I can find a couple more before we go to bat, then Grace will be mighty happy.

      "Outstanding in his Field"

When Amish people told the English that “Samuel is Outstanding in his field” the English didn’t think they meant the left field.

      Multiple Responses:

Sorry guys, when I start thinking of these things I can’t stop. I would have deleted out my old responses and added them to this if I knew how.

      More Responses:

      “Go long!”

“Come on guys, hit the ball to me. I’m not just standing out here for my my health.”

      And finally… (I hope)

Samuel had a hard time remembering his bible verses correctly. “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures…and get back up to play BASEBALL!”

      1. No worries Tom; multiple responses permitted, encouraged even 🙂

YOU ARE NEVER ALONE...UNLESS YOU KNOW NOT THE LORD

      I THES.CHAPTER 4 VERSE 13 AND FOLLOWING…
V.13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them that are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
V.14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
V.15 For this we say unto you,by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and REMAIN unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
      V.16 FOR THE LORD HIMSELF SHALL DECEND FROM HEAVEN WITH A SHOUT,WITH THE VOICE OF THE ARCHANGEL, AND WITH THE TRUMP OF GOD; AND THE DEAD IN CHRIST SHALL RISE FIRST;
V.17 THEN WE WHICH ARE ALIVE AND RERMAIN SHALL BE CAUGHT UP TOGETHER WITH THEM IN THE CLOUDS,TO MEET THE LORD IN THE AIR;AND SO SHALL WE EVER BE WITH THE LORD.
V.18 WHEREFORE COMFORT ONE ANOTHER WITH THESE WORDS.

I’m here because some guy called “Amish Stories” paid me $5.00 to stand here so Erik from Amish America could use my picture in a contest!

Some guy who said that he’s from the government is up at bat, and he told me that he’s here to help!

I wouldn’t be standing here all alone if I thought some tourist would be taking my picture!

Dont look at me,Im waiting for that groundhog to throw me the ball! (thought Eric would like this one)

Just give Amish Stories that subscription before he starts to beg already!

I could be making a load of cash at the family food stand, so I dont need this!

That guy from the government said that after the game he wants to look at our financial books for our family food stand!

I was for playing baseball before I was against it!

If Tom’s, Primitive’s, and Ann’s comments were combined, it would be:
“Samuel is out standing in his field, way out in left field.” (But maybe that wouldn’t be proper.)

“He’s out in the field all right, way out in left field.”

“My mom said I shouldn’t ride the fence.”

“The vunderbaar pop-up ball is out of sight, over the hill, and far, far away.”

If I would put a Scripture to this snapshot, it would be:
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.” Psalm 121:1

For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.’ But luckily no balls had been beaned off of Benuel’s contemplating head”
