Amish Linguistics
Dear Members / Staff,
I am trying to find information regarding an article explaining the Amish use of ‘happen’ in place of ‘passieren / geschehen’ (‘brassiere / g’schehe’). I thought I saw the author’s name here. Can anyone direct me further?
Sincerely,
Dean Guarnaschelli,
Adjunct Prof. German / Hofstra University
Hello Dean, I am not quite sure which article you might be referring to. Off the top of my head some scholars who are involved with the Amish and linguistics are Mark Louden of U. of Wisconsin, Karen Johnson-Weiner of SUNY-Potsdam, and Jörg Meindl of Lebanon Valley College. Perhaps it was a publication by one of them, or they may be able to point you in the right direction.
Translation of word
How do I spell and say ‘UNDERSTAND’, in the language of the Pennsylvania Dutch? I would greatly appreciate your reply A.S.A.P. In advance, I thank you! Respectfully submitted, Dean Enterline, per email: deanenterline@gmail.com
Liability Insurance
This article (http://www.amishnews.com/insurance.html) has piqued my interest. Who would be a good person to speak about how the Amish use this form of medical payment arrangement and an update on the numbers?
I represent a group of Christian ministries that use a similar arrangement but is not insurance.
