As a young girl my great grandparents were od Omish decent, I was wondering if there was any way of confirming this through records? I am very curious. My great grandfather was from Minnesota and great grandmother was from south Dakota, they came to Canada and settled in Claresholm. I was hoping to find out any information possible.
Thank you

origins
My family name is Hefelfinger. How do I find out if they might have been Amish or Mennonite?. My brother traveled to Switzerland to the town of Hefelfingen, where the name originated. I do know they were German.I can get back only so far online, and I am trying to research back to Hefelfingen, Basel,Switzerland.
Is it possible to research Anabaptist records of the 1700s in PA & VA?
Believe my 1760s great-great-great-grandfather may have been from an Anabaptist family. I have been doing genealogy since 1998 and found his name, Abraham Coffman, that year but have YET to find his parents or even a sibling. I know more of who “my” Abraham Coffman isn’t than who he is. [See http://hexlyn.com/cp/whichabraham/ ]
I believe that perhaps his father either broke away from the church or was shunned. I have multiple research posts/pages on my site. And I do have a copy of his will which gave the name of his wife & his children.
He was born in VA according to a census record but where in VA I do not know. I have researched Martin Coffman but I have not found any “sourced” data that shows any link to my Coffmans. He & his family migrated from VA to KY in 1803-1804.
How would I go about finding records or obtaining help on searching for Abraham Coffman?

Valuable info. Lucky me I found your web site by accident, and I’m stunned why this coincidence didn’t took
place earlier! I bookmarked it.
Seeking information about Anabaptists named Allgaier
My ancestor Franz Allgaier appears to have been born in Stuttgart, Germany in the early ir mid-1800s. I don’t have the dates in front if me. There was an oral tradition in my dad’s family that the family roots were in Switzerland. More recently I met an evangelical Christian who was raised in a traditional Mennonite family in Canada. She told me that she had heard the name Allgaier among Mennonites. I know that the roots of Anabaptists are in Switzerland and heard that some fled persecution and went to southern Germany (where Stuttgart is also located.) I am interested in any helpful information though, understandably you would know more about Amish family names than Mennonite family names. The Allgaier name has been misspelled as Algyr, Algire, and Alger. At least the first two tried to preserve the proper pronunciation if pronounced with a hard G.
