Amish Barns in New York State

With some outlets offering custom construction, Amish barn businesses can adapt to a buyer’s needs.  Additionally, some NY Amish barn sellers provide sales over the internet, allowing a convenient buying option for those who already have a good sense of what they need.

New York Amish Communities

Though the oldest current NY Amish community was fairly recently founded (mid-20th century), New York’s Amish population continues to rise into the 2010s, making it one of America’s most-Amish-populous states.  Lower farm land prices and more sparsely populated areas of the state have attracted Amish from communities in states such as Pennsylvania and Ohio.  Amish have brought with them their entrepreneurial knack and have gone on to found many cottage businesses and small home industries, such as barn and shed building.

Amish Barns in New York
Amish have become an increasingly common sight in New York communities in recent times

As an alternative to ordering direct from an Amish barn retailer, you may prefer to find an Amish barn business located in an Amish community.  The following communities are among the state’s largest and are thus a better bet to feature one or more such Amish barn businesses. For more details on Amish in the Empire State, check our full New York Amish guide.

Conewango Valley:  The Empire State’s largest and oldest Amish presence. Relatively traditional and agriculturally-oriented community.  Around 2,000 Amish live in the Conewango Valley area (Cattaraugus County).

Clymer (Chautauqua County)This western New York community is relatively progressive compared to others mentioned here, and a number of Amish-run businesses can be found in this settlement of around 250 households.

Heuvelton: A stone’s throw from Canada, this northern NY community is the state’s second-largest and highly conservative in outlook.
