Another 10 views of Holmes County, Ohio

This is another installment in the 10 views series, featuring photos from my recent visit to the Holmes County, Ohio Amish community.   I’ve included a few comments and links to relevant posts that you might enjoy. Sugarcreek is technically in Tuscarawas County.  It’s often the first little town visitors to the area pass through.  Many of the buildings in Sugarcreek’s “Swiss Village” downtown area…

10 Views of Ashland County, Ohio

The best known Amish community in Ohio is of course the huge Holmes County settlement, home to around 30,000 Amish. Next would be the Geauga County community, the fourth largest of all Amish settlements, with a little less than half the population of Holmes County. Those may be the most well known Ohio Amish locations, but there are many other Amish settlements scattered across the…

10 views of Nappanee, Indiana

10 views of Nappanee, Indiana

Today we have the latest installment in our regular 10 views feature. I took these photos last summer while in the Nappanee, Indiana Amish community. The town of Nappanee is at the center of a large Amish community of around 5,000 people, which stretches over 4 northern Indiana counties: Kosciusko, Elkhart, Marshall, and St. Joseph.  Founded in the early 1840s, this community is one of…

10 views of the Adams County, Indiana Amish

10 views of the Adams County, Indiana Amish

We haven’t done one of these in awhile, so here are ten photos from the Adams County, Indiana Amish settlement. As you can see, it was a fairly grey day, so that didn’t help.  Which do you think came out best? If you enjoyed these, some other photos: 10 views of Lancaster County Amish 10 views of the northern Indiana (Elkhart-Lagrange) Amish 10 views of Allen…

10 views of the Allen County, Indiana Amish community

It’s been awhile since we’ve done one of these, so I thought I’d share a few shots from an August visit to the Allen County, Indiana Amish settlement.  The Allen County community is the 5th largest in Indiana and one of the two large Swiss Amish settlements in the state.  Hope you enjoy the photos, any observations? 10 views of northern Indiana Amish

After yesterday’s Arthur Amish photos, here’s another ten–from the northern Indiana Amish of Elkhart and Lagrange Counties. I’ll be taking all next week off from posting (family vacation), but will return to a regular blogging schedule Monday Sep. 19.  In the meantime, we’re doing a little contest. I’ve got a few back issues of Amish magazine The Connection to give away (The Connection is headquartered…

10 views of the Dover, Delaware Amish

A full one-third of Delaware’s counties have Amish settlements. Okay, Delaware only has three counties (yep, that kind of sounds like a joke you’d hear an Amish guy make). Delaware’s sole Amish settlement nestles against state capital Dover.  Amish have been here almost 100 years. It’s a decent-sized community, actually: 9 church districts, over 1000 people.  Amish have been leaving though.  Land is expensive next…

10 views of Juniata County, Pennsylvania

Continuing the “10 views” series, today we have photos of Juniata County, Pennsylvania. A couple months ago we had a post on the Juniata County Amish.  This community is one of the many lesser-known Pennsylvania settlements. With 8 church districts, it’s actually a pretty sizeable one.  That’s about 1000 Amish, give or take. But Juniata County is overshadowed by nearby Big Valley, nearly 4 times…
