Amish shed builders

In recent times Amish business has flourished in Michigan as it has elsewhere across the country.   Michigan Amish craftsmen create furniture for the home and the backyard alike, while Amish carpenters construct new homes and do remodeling work including building decks and patios.  The sheds and storage building industry has also been a hit with the Amish, whose mini-factories pump out scores of outdoor structures to be shipped across the country.

The typical Amish-owned business in Michigan is traditionally based at the home and is a low-key operation compared to the industrial manufacturing setting prevailing in much of modern society.  Amish are heavily family-oriented, and incorporate their families into their work, believing strongly in the importance of teaching their children and a youth a robust work ethic from an early age.  Sons and daughters alike pitch in to help at the typical Amish family firm, as do wives in many cases (when they have a free moment from duties in the home and taking care of young children).

Thanks to partnerships with non-Amish dealers, Amish shed builders have expanded their range into areas well outside of their home communities.  Shed outlets near large cities offer convenience for buyers, also allowing Amish to focus on production.  That noted, a number of Amish shed manufacturers also sell their products direct to the public on a retail basis.  Numerous shed businesses can be found in neighboring states like Ohio, home to an Amish population numbering in the tens of thousands.

Amish shed quality

Amish products in general enjoy a good reputation, thanks to Amish emphasis on core business elements such as value for money, quality materials, and precise handiwork.  Amish craftsmen typically learn their trades on an “on-the-job” basis, often apprenticing with other Amish woodworkers from an early age.  This often gives the average Amish craftsman an experience advantage, especially since nearly all Amish finish their formal education at the age of 14 or 15 and shortly thereafter enter the workforce.

Amish sheds are crafted in a wide range of attractive designs and types, making an eye-catching addition to any backyard.  These include Victorian, Cape Cod, Quaker, Garden, Cottage, A-Frame, and Mini-barn style sheds.  Wooden sheds are a specialty (pine, cedar, and hemlock are commonly used woods), as are buildings crafted from vinyl.  Since many Amish shed builders offer customization, the prospective shed buyer can choose from different options including doors, roofs, shingles, flooring, windows, and more.

As Amish businesses are typically small-scale, often the owner will work on-site along with his employees.  This personal involvement means great care is taken to assure quality.  Amish seek to maintain good relationships with their often non-Amish dealers, and also believe strongly that they should treat others as they’d like to be treated–which often spills over into the way they run their businesses.

Where to buy an Amish shed – Michigan

Amish-made sheds can be purchased in a variety of ways.  Some buyers opt to buy direct from an Amish craftsman.  While not all Amish sell their wares retail, some do.  Amish can be found in Michigan in their greatest numbers in settlements in St. Joseph County (near Centreville), Branch County, and Hillsdale County.  Numerous Amish in these communities continue to farm, however many have entered woodworking, construction, and other manufacturing trades.  Read more on Amish in Michigan, or view a full list of Michigan Amish furniture sellers.

Outside of Michigan, a number of retail Amish shed sellers can be found in Ohio, particularly in the large Holmes County settlement.  Michigan residents may opt for the somewhat more convenient option of visiting a large shed outlet, where numerous styles of sheds can be viewed.  An even simpler option may be to purchase an Amish shed online.  Numerous web-based Amish shed dealers will sell customized sheds and even deliver the product to your backyard.  This option by its nature does not let you “kick the tires” of your new shed, so to speak, but may tempt some shed shoppers by its promise of a hassle-free shopping experience done from the comfort of your own home.
