      question

i want to buy an 8-sided polywood picnic table for my cabin in florence county, wisconsin. is there a table builder within decent driving / delivery distance of there?

      1. Amish table builder Wisconsin

Jackie the nearest Amish communities to you are in Marathon County (3 settlements–Spencer area, a second settlement near Athens, a third near Edgar and Stratford), and in Shawano County (Bonduel). All of these are pretty small (1 or 2 congregations, so let’s say from 10-50 households), though there is a decent chance of finding a furniture maker or two, if you’re interested in ordering direct from an Amish table maker.

You could also try one of the stores listed above in the Wausau area which retail Amish furniture and possibly Amish-made tables. Not sure if the two I have listed do poly outdoor furniture but you can check the websites which are listed for them.

Finally you could also order online. There are a number of outdoor Amish furniture sellers which you’ll find all over the web. If you’d like to support this site you might try Amish Online Furniture which has a pretty huge selection. They are based in Michigan, and ship all over the country. Furniture is made by Amish craftsmen in Indiana and Ohio.

If you click the “Amish Online Furniture” image link at the top of the page (either the big one in-text, or on the sidebar), it will take you to their site. Scroll down and on the left side menu you’ll find the “Amish Outdoor Furniture” link. They’ve got at least one 8-sided poly table for sale on that page.

You will also get 2% off your order by using the promotional code “America”, a nice discount they’ve made available for Amish America readers.

Amish built storage sheds - Wisconsin

Are you aware of Amish or Mennonite builders of wood storage sheds?
I know that a few years ago, they delivered some to seasonal campers at the POA campground near Portage, WI. I think I had heard that they were about 100 miles away.

      Thanks,
      Mike

      Outdoor furniture

About 6 or 7 years ago I was at the Holiday Fair at State Fair in West Allis. There was an Amish Family selling beautiful lawn funriture. He made adironic rockers and gliders that had wild life scenes and the back of the chairs. Where can I find these chairs?

    5. Sheila Scott

48 INCH SOLID OAK BATHROOM VANITY -GOLDEN OAK STAIN

      Hi,
I have seen an Amish made vanity on Ebay, but have been unable to contact the builder. Do you know who I could contact about having one made? Thank you.

      1. These are mostly retailers Sheila but can often arrange custom-made products. I’d see what is close to you in the list above and contact them if you want to try that avenue.

Alternatively if you are in Wisconsin near an Amish community, you could visit an Amish furniture maker directly. They often do primarily wholesale work but a good number also make retail furniture. Larger communities in WI are found in the areas of Cashton, Hillsboro, and Wilton/Tomah, though there are many more communities in the state:

      Mid-Century Modern Dining

My husband and I purchased our bedroom set from a retailer, but it was made by Amish in Ohio. We would like to have custom dining set made, but would prefer to go directly to the craftsman. One of the issues is that I very much like mid-century modern style, but cannot find newly made pieces. Would this be a style an Amish craftsman would be able to do? I have pictures of what I would like. We are extremely impressed with our bedroom set and would enjoy adding to our home with other such high quality furniture. It would also be nice if the craftsman lives in Wisconsin, northern Illinois, or northeaster Iowa. How would I find individuals who might be able to create these products?
      Thank you.

      1. Amish-made Mid-century Modern Furniture

Stacie Amish furniture makers do make a wide range of styles and can be adept at creating custom pieces. Mid-century modern is not a style that I’ve seen much of in descriptions of Amish shops and products, however, there is at least one outlet advertising Amish-made furniture done in mid-century modern style.

        http://blog.amishoriginals.com/amish-craftsmanship-meets-mid-century-modern-style/

It sounds like Amish craftsmen create these pieces (designed by an Ohio-based British designer) which are “built by hand and completely customizable.”

Alternatively, you can seek out a craftsman in your neck of the woods and if they’re not already familiar, see if this style would be within their capabilities. Larger Amish communities usually have a number of woodworking businesses; you can locate the larger settlements by using this guide: https://amishamerica.com/amish-state-guide/

You can also check furniture business listings for each of the areas you mention via the main page of this directory: https://amishamerica.com/amish-state-guide/

If you’re willing to go a little bit farther, the community of Arthur in central Illinois is home to a well-developed and quite sizeable Amish woodworking, furniture and cabinetry industry.

    9. Prices of Amish furniture for insurance purposes

I bought Amish furniture from The Wood Shed in
Augusta, WI about 25 years ago. For renter’s
insurance and division of property, I need to know
its value. Two of the three pieces look similar
to two of the West Lake occasional tables (not the taller one where the top lifts off). Another is a
flat table surface with a built-in magazine rack
between the table. I believe I paid about $100
for the smallest table with one door, about $250
for the table with the magazine rack, and about
$300 for the longest one with two doors. What
would they be valued at for replacements?
